CESAX Orientation: Welcome Back!CESAX OrientationCESAX is excited to welcome you back to campus, but we are still doing our welcome events online. Led by an amazing instructor, this class is open to folks of all skill levels. We encourage you to bring your own mat and gear, but we will have a few sanitized mats available for those who need them. Hope to see you there! Fireside Chat with the Dean Mon, Sept 20 | 5pm-6pm CESAX, in collaboration with the Chang School, are bringing you Fireside with Chang School. One of CESAX’s Executives, alongside Gary Hepburn, Chang School Dean, will be discussing some of the resources and support services offered to Chang School students by the university and CESAX! Make sure to tune in! CESAX 101 Tues, Sept 21 | 5pm-6:30pm Join us for a presentation that introduces CESAX and all that we do! Join to learn more about our health and dental plan, services, campaigns, and events that we hold throughout the year, as well as how you can get involved in the union as a volunteer or class representative! Understanding the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act Wed, Sept 22 | 6pm-7:30pm This harm reduction training session will discuss the toxic drug supply crisis and how we can keep our communities safe by becoming first responders to substance-related emergencies. With a brief overview of the harm reduction framework and administering naloxone, this session will outline protections for first responders under the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act. Protections for people who use substances will also be discussed as well as the limitations of this act. Drag Bingo Thurs, Sept 23 | 7pm-8pm Join CESAX for an evening of bingo hosted by a fabulous Toronto-based drag queen. Win sexy or safe for work prizes (up to you) from various Toronto retailers! Welcome to the Student Movement Tues, Sept 28 | 4pm-5pm Students’ unions are here to represent your interest at the university and in municipal, provincial and federal governments. Want to learn more about our campaigns or the campaigns of the Canadian Federation of Students (www.cfsontario.ca). Join us for this session and have a chance to win some great trivia prizes! Pick Up Orientation KitsWelcome back! While the bulk of the work we are doing is digital, CESAX will be giving out Orientation Welcome bags to Continuing Education students on the week of September 20-23 from 2pm-7pm. We will have a limited supply of tote bags, waterbottles, agendas/handbooks and much more! Volunteer OpportunitiesVolunteer TrainingMonday, October 4 - 5pm-6pm Join CESAX for volunteer training on October 4 from 5-6 PM! Get to know other volunteers, learn more about the opportunities and responsibilities you have as a CESAX volunteer. Register for volunteer training and we will send you more information on the program. Class Representative ProgramClass Representatives are student volunteers who represent CESAX in their course. Class Reps are responsible for informing their course on upcoming CESAX events and campaigns, and connecting students to CESAX for service information and/or support. We will also be holding a voluntary training session on October 6. Bylaws & Policy Committee:This committee is responsible for overseeing and recommending CESAX bylaws and policies to the CESAX Board of Directors. Next Meeting: Tues, Oct. 5 | 6:00pm-7:00pm Equity and Campaigns Committee:This committee is where we discuss campaigns and issues that range from issues in post-secondary education to climate justice to social justice and equity issues. Remember that you do not need to be registered to vote and that you can vote on the day of the election. Learn about when, where and how to vote at elections.ca. It’s time for youth to use their power and strut to the polls. It’s time to Drag out the Vote! Fall Bursary - Applications OpenWe are now accepting applications for our Spring bursary. Any CESAX member (a student enrolled in a Chang School course, a distance education student, continuing education or a part-time undergraduate degree student), who is in need of financial assistance can apply for a bursary up to $400 each term. Applicants can only receive the bursary once per academic year (September to August). The CESAX bursary is not a loan; you do not need to pay it back. Application Period: September 10 - October 8, 2021 Legal Aid Clinic UpdateCESAX members have access to a free legal aid clinic to help with any number of legal issues. Visit mycesax.ca/legal to learn more about the service and to book your appointment. Unfortunately, due to changes with the Ryerson Students’ Union operations, students in full-time degrees not currently enrolled in a Chang School course will not be eligible for the service. Worried about your Grades or Academic Standing?This Friday, September 17th at 4 pm, is the deadline for appealing final grades and academic standings from Spring/Summer 2021. If you are planning to appeal and need some help, be in touch with the Student Rights Coordinator: studentrights@mycesax.ca Need to Appeal? Speak to your instructor or program director and check out the following workshops. You can also contact the CESAX Student Rights Coordinator. Academic Consideration VideoFeel overwhelmed or unwell and need to miss a test or get an extension on your assignment? Make an Academic Consideration Request (ACR) through the online portal (look on the left side for “Online Academic Consideration Request”). It’s a private and streamlined process to get a deferral or extension. Watch this video to learn more! X University Pow WowSept 20-25 The 2021 X University Pow Wow features a whole week of education programming including a series of classes, panels, workshops and more. Vendor Market & Family GatheringFri. Sept 25 | 12pm-5pm Join the XU Pow Wow and Wreckonciliation for an afternoon of stories, celebration and resistance. Come to the XU Quad and shop our vendors, participate in arts activities and engage with learning stations. This event is for Indigenous community members first and foremost, settlers are welcome to join us as guests. |
