Brisbane Global Rugby Tens Information Session

Business South Bank members are invited to a briefing on the inaugural Brisbane Global Rugby Tens Tournament - Feb 2017, presented by Bryn Skilbeck, Duco Events Australia.

In three months, Brisbane will exclusively host a two-day international rugby tournament that will attract 300-plus players from Australia and leading rugby countries.

The event will be held at Suncorp Stadium and will be broadcast on Foxsports.

It is rare that a gathering of this calibre of rugby players and matches would take place in one city.

BSB members are encouraged to attend this briefing to understand the impact on Brisbane as well as identify any opportunities for their business and/or events.

Queens Wharf Brisbane – CBD Road Closures

To enable construction of the integrated resort development Queens Wharf Brisbane, some changes to traffic routes in the CBD will be necessary starting from New Year’s Day - 1 January. This is likely to impact transport to and from the South Bank precinct.

Queen’s Wharf Road (adjacent to the Brisbane River) and William Street (between Elizabeth Street and Margaret Street) will be the two streets most affected.

Safety and Security Resources

Last week, Business South Bank members heard from Senior Constable and West End Community Beat Officer, Sandi Trembath at our Safety and Security Information session.

Sandi shared a number of tips for staying safe in the precinct, particularly during the holiday season, including:

• Don't be afraid to ask someone to walk you to your car at night time - even men. Men are actually more at risk than women.
• If you are forced to walk around alone at night, reduce risk by remaining alert - this means watching your alcohol consumption, not having earphones in, and not texting while walking.
• The best ways to combat an assailant are to scream as loudly as you can, look for a diversion or run away.
• If you feel unsafe, call someone and let them know where you are or even just pretend to call someone.
• If someone tries to steal from you - be compliant. It's better to hand over your property than be harmed yourself.
