September at Cove ParkWe are pleased to welcome many more artists to Cove Park this month. Our funded residency programme continues with the arrival of visual artist Hrafnhildur Halldórsdóttir and we welcome the four artists awarded Early Career Residencies this year, supported by The Fenton Arts Trust: writer Lisette Auton, composer Jane Dickson, visual artist Winnie Herbstein and artist/researcher Heiba Lamara. Cove Park has a long-established partnership with the London-based company Fuel Theatre and, through this connection, we are delighted to host the award-winning playwright Aisha Zia in September. This year is the third year in which Cove Park has hosted recipients of the Ivan Juritz Prize. This award supports residencies for post-graduate students and we look forward to welcoming the 2019
recipients: Manos Charalabopoulos (King's College) Kathryn Maris (Goldsmiths) and Claire Michel (Wimbledon College of Arts). Scroll down for news of a special forthcoming event with Raydale Dower and Francis McKee, the SWAP UK/Ukraine residency programme, the Scottish Tour of Scotland + Venice
2019, an update on our series of European residencies and details of creative writing workshops for children and young people. No War for Heavy Metal:
Raydale Dower in conversation with
Francis McKeePlease join us on Friday 20 September from 3-6pm for a special event to mark the final stage of Raydale Dower's Visual Arts residency. Raydale and Francis McKee (curator, writer and Director of CCA Glasgow) will discuss the influence of atomic weapons on the popular imagination and art movements of the mid-to-late 20th century. This event is a response to the 16mm experimental films created by Raydale as part of a series of preliminary studies for a new body of work - No War for Heavy Metal - that includes sculptural objects, interventions and text. The work reflects upon the presence of nuclear weapons at the nearby naval bases of Coulport and Faslane and focuses
upon counter cultural responses to nuclear arms through the lenses of peaceful anarchism, anti-war and psychedelic movements. Work developed by Raydale during his residency, and a number of original 1960’s screen-printed posters and handbills from Francis's personal collection, will also be shown within Cove Park's Artists Centre.
