The Adelaide Graduate Centre has added a new workshop for HDR students in the health sciences. Clinical Research: Establishing Investigator Initiated Trials is now available through CaRST for three dates in 2018. Communication and ‘win-win’ skills as an HDR

In this workshop, Jane Turner-Goldsmith looks at the skills of communication – speaking, writing, emailing, presenting and listening (the last a much under-valued communication skill!). You will also learn an effective assertive communication technique and discuss the basics of conflict resolution and negotiation while considering leadership and collaboration roles that apply to you as a researcher and in your future workplace. 15 June 2018, 10am - 12pm, Horace Lamb 422 North Terrace. Media Training for Scientists

Dealing with the media can be a challenge. In this workshop, Dr Joe Milton from the Australian Science Media Centre will explore how scientists can get the most out of working with the mainstream media. He will focus on making tricky science accessible, avoiding jargon, and how to communicate your message to a broad lay audience. 18 June 2018, 2pm - 4pm, Horace Lamb 422 North Terrace. Clinical Research: Establishing Investigator Initiated Trials

If your career is in the health industry, it is likely to be influenced by Clinical Research – whether as part of your course or in your next job, understanding clinical research will be key. This workshop will cover the wide range of factors in investigator initiated clinical trials including the context of health science translation, determining the research question, setting up collaborations, the role of industry partners, writing the protocol, assessing study feasibility, costing essentials and funding options for studies. 21 June 2018, 1pm - 4pm, AHMS 1068 West End Precinct. How to Plan your PhD

A PhD is a major undertaking yet many people spend more time planning a weekend away than they do planning the next three years of their life. If you want to finish on time and enjoy the process along the way then it is important to have a good plan. Join us for How to Plan your PhD to develop your own PhD Planning Toolkit and know how to use it to plan your PhD. Would you like to know the secret to high output, low stress scholarly writing? Then join us for this workshop presented by Hugh Kearns from ThinkWell to learn how to increase your writing output. Three Minute Thesis - Last Chance to Register

Registrations for the Three Minute Thesis competition are closing soon on 18 June 2018. The 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) is a great way to develop your communication skills and profile your research. It's a competition that challenges Higher Degree by Research students to explain their research project to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes.
