Parlour Conversations

Mon 3 Sep - Fri 7 Sep
10am - 12 noon | FREE | book online

Grab a cup of tea and join the conversation! Informal and open to all.

Monday: Writing as making
We’ll discuss how creative writing falls into our practice, and an invitation to share our writing with others.

Tuesday: Navigating your artistic identity
How do we maintain our identities as movers, and how do we balance nurturing ourselves and our practices with earning money.

Wednesday: “Somatic practice is good for you”
A morning to unpick assumptions about somatic practices and to question and rediscover their value to us as diverse individuals.

Thursday: PhD surVIVA
A space for current and prospective PhD candidates to meet and share experiences of interweaving practice and academia.

Friday: Who is ‘the public’?
Whom do we picture when we say ‘the public’? Do we reach those we want to reach? In developing specificity in our practice, how do we avoid existing a bubble outside of which sits a ‘public’.

Sixth Annual Higher Education Round Table

Excellence, Failure and the Expert
Thur 6 Sep | 1.30 - 6pm | FREE | book online

What constitutes excellence and for whom, and what is the relationship between excellence and expertise?

How can we find excellence within risk and failure as integral to a learning process?

Our sixth annual HE round table discussion for artist-teachers working in the academic sector. In light of the pressures facing all institutions and particularly the recent Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) we want to put notions of excellence on the table for debate.

Supporting and nurturing artists who in turn teach other artists is a key part of ID's mission, and we would like to offer you this gathering space for useful exchange in the context of higher education and the wider dance sector. The round table is free to attend. If you are able to make a towards the cost of running the event, we welcome this in the form of a donation on the day.
