To a Better Year Ahead!

Happy New Year!

From everyone at St. Joseph's Villa, we wish you a happy new year! 2020 was a year we'll never forget. Though it'll be remembered for the tough times, it's the resilience and perseverance from all of our staff that will stand out when we look back on the year. Your commitment and dedication to improving the lives of others truly make a difference. And for that, we thank you.

Here's to better days ahead, a New Year's poem from our Villa Poet, Glenn Lloyd.

Vaccines to the Rescue! The end is in sight.

"There are so many vulnerable people of all ages in our home, our families and our community. I am so proud of our staff, physicians and essential caregivers for getting vaccinated.” - John Woods, President, St. Joseph's Villa

As the COVID-19 vaccine rolls out across Ontario, we can begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel. St. Joseph’s Villa staff were some of the first long-term care workers to receive the vaccine in Hamilton. Being vaccinated means not only protecting themselves and their families, but the residents they take care of.

Over 400 St. Joseph’s Villa staff and essential caregivers have received the vaccine in the past couple of weeks, and we can expect this number to increase in the upcoming weeks. Residents will soon have the opportunity to be vaccinated. Though we do not yet have specific dates from the Ministry of Health, we anticipate delivery of the Moderna vaccine in the next few weeks.

St. Joseph's Villa staff were excited to be among the first wave of vaccinations:

"I feel good, it's just like I received the flu shot... some of the best science in the world has been deployed to create this vaccine. It's for our own good and for the welfare of others around us." - Jaison John, Registered Physiotherapist

"I was so excited to end off 2020 with my vaccine... I felt such a strong responsibility to do what I could to protect not only myself, but my family, co-workers and our residents." - Wendy Randall, Manager of Environmental Services

Margaret's Place Hospice Update

As we enter 2021, the countdown for the opening of Margaret’s Place Hospice is on! With construction remaining on schedule, the Hospice is slated to open its doors this June. Window and glass curtain installation is nearing completion; drywall installation is now underway; internal electrical and ductwork continues along with roofing enclosure. The build is rapidly moving, and we are excited to welcome the community to see the final product.

St. Joseph’s Villa Foundation continues to rely on support from the community as we near the completion of construction. With the incredible generosity so far, the vision for Margaret’s Place is truly coming to life. A Gift of Care can go a long way in sustaining much-needed programs and services at the Hospice.
