ROUND TABLE LEMON CHICKEN PIZZARound Table Pizza, a chain of more than 400 locations in the United States, has recently launched a Charred Lemon Chicken pizza. This new limited time offering features the brand’s signature hand-rolled dough topped with creamy lemon sauce, a 3-cheese blend, lemon pepper grilled chicken, charred lemon slices, garlic, zucchini, spinach, tomatoes, red and green onions. In keeping with the Mediterranean flavour trend, Dawn Farms offer a succulent Lemon Pepper Chicken as part of its new ‘Taste the Mediterranean’ summer range. 2. NEW ECO LABELLING SCHEMEGlobal food giants such as Nestle, alongside retailers including M&S, the Co-op and Sainsbury’s, are among the members of a new non-profit organisation that will roll out front-of-pack eco-scores on food from September. The labelling scheme will draw on data from the world’s two leading systems for measuring the environmental impact of food production and the criteria includes product’s carbon emissions, water usage, impact on biodiversity loss and water pollution The aim is the scheme is to promote more sustainable buying choices from consumers and more environmentally friendly innovation from food producers, who will be determined to secure a better score. 3. LEON DRIVE-THRU & SUMMER MENULEON is set to launch its first drive-thru restaurant. The site is said to be the “first of many” drive-thru locations planned for the year. Investment will also be driven into the site’s “digital-first” restaurant, which will feature kiosks for digital ordering and payments. The owners also said it will be the most sustainable LEON restaurant so far, with 100% of its power sourced through renewable energy. Their new Seasonal menu is now available and draws inspiration from their new cookbook Happy Guts, using seasonal and more plant-based ingredients and there is even a and a new carbon-neutral burger. 4. SHARING FOOD INSPIRATION ONLINECovid-19 prompted consumers, especially the younger cohorts, to engage more online. This combined with the at home cooking trend meant many social media users were sharing their recipes and other food-related videos on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. Food movements and trends are now being initiated online meaning brands also need to create, capture and adapt to these online 5. MIGHTY MUSHROOM COThe plant-based market continues to grow, and the latest entrant is the major mushroom producer and supplier Monaghan. They have unveiled a new vegan brand designed to appeal to consumers seeking out sustainable plant-based options. They are launching three SKUs, a meat-free mince, burgers and Cumberland-style sausages all of which have at least 75% mushroom content. 6. PIZZA EXPRESS READY FOR SUMMERPizza Express unveils a revamped summer menu including 16 new dishes. The star of the show is the Romana BBQ Burnt Ends Pizza topped with caramelized ends of 12-hour cooked brisket with a hint of chipotle. Not forgetting the famous dough balls, Pizza Express introduce a new variety; topped with pesto and hot jalapenos. The iconic brand is also expanding its cook-at-home range with seven new products and a selection of dipping sauces launching in Tesco and Ocado from 28th June. 7. BURKER KING TERIYAKI TOWER BURGERBurger King in Japan has released a new Tokyo Teriyaki Tower Burger for a limited time only. The new burger takes inspiration from the second tallest structure in Japan, the landmark Tokyo Tower and features four flame-grilled beef patties layered with two slices of cheddar cheese and topped with onions, pickles, mayo, red miso paste, and teriyaki sauce, all squeezed between two sesame seed buns. The new gigantic burger is designed to appeal to those who believe bigger is better. 8. VEGAN BBQ WEEKThe UK will see it’s first ever Vegan week launched this summer, from 2nd to 11th July to coincide with summertime BBQ season. During the week, sizzling vegan options will be showcased, featuring anything from bangin’ vegan beef burgers to streaky plant-based rashers to satisfy the grill masters as people continue to spend more time at home. Animal rights organisation PETA is kicking off the event and collaborating with several brands and retailers for the week, including Aldi, Goodlife and Vivera. 9. PAPA JOHN'S GERMAN GROWTHPapa John's continues its international growth and announces a 250-unit deal with PJ Western, one of its large franchisees, in Germany. The Louisville based pizza chain first made a move to Germany in 2019 with the acquisition of 13 restaurants and has big plans to open another 6 stores by the end of the summer. Demand for US restaurants oversees remains and pizza has an established presence in many markets. After entering a dozen new countries in recent years, Papa John’s is also eyeing up growth in Brazil, Japan and South East Asia.
