January 2017

Native vegetation in South Australia is protected by the Native Vegetation Act 1991 and the Native Vegetation Regulations. The Native Vegetation Council (NVC) is established under The Act as an independent body for the preservation and enhancement of the State’s native vegetation.

SEB GRANTS ROUND NOW OPEN

Are you able to deliver a large environmental project in the Mount Lofty Ranges? Funding is now available for the establishment of a native vegetation Significant Environmental Benefit (SEB) area to offset an approved clearance associated with the Bald Hills interchange at Mount Barker.

The ‘SEB Grants – Red Gum Woodland, Mount Lofty Ranges’ Funding Round opens 11 January 2017. There are two stages: Stage (1) Expression of Interest (EOI), and Stage (2) Full Application. Projects will be allocated to successful applicants by June 2017.

We are now inviting EOI applications. The closing date for EOI applications is 5pm ACDT 22 February 2017.

To prepare your EOI application, you must:

  • carefully read the Guidelines for Applicants
  • ensure that you and/or your organisation meet the Eligibility Criteria (in the Guidelines for Applicants)
  • prepare and submit an EOI Application Form by the due date.

To find all of the documents you need to prepare your EOI, go to the Significant Environmental Benefit Grants website.

What should your project look like?

Funding is available for large scale or otherwise significant projects only. Projects valued under $100,000 will not be considered.

Project ideas must consider the Biodiversity Offsetting principles in the Policy for SEB.

The Guidelines for Applicants provides information about project design and principles. Specific principles that need to be considered include the following and more:

  • The SEB area should directly improve the condition, protection and/or extent of native vegetation
  • It should be established over a clearly defined area of land
  • Each block within the SEB should be a minimum of 30 metres wide for at least 90 per cent of the length, and 3 hectares or greater in area
  • The SEB area should not be in a location likely to be subject to future disturbances.
