Supply lists and summer reading assignments

Copies of supply lists for next year and summer reading assignments will be posted to the school website.

Pop open a book this summer!

Summer is upon us once again! In order to encourage summer reading, Mrs. Kilbane has organized the Sacred Heart Summer Reading Program for grades K-8. The program includes a reward party for participants in the fall.

Details about the program and a log to record books read can be found here.

Please note that this is separate from the required summer reading for the older grades.

First grade collects Nickels for the Needy

First graders recently organized a "Nickels for the Needy" collection. Both first grade classes sacrificed and collected $411 dollars that was donated to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at Sacred Heart Parish.

Website helps you find Mass when traveling

Don’t forget that while on vacation, your obligation to attend Sunday Mass follows you.

It is easy to locate a Catholic church and find out what time Mass is offered. Just go to www.masstimes.org. There you can enter the country and local area / zip code of where you will be vacationing and find a listing of churches and Mass times.

The same information can also be accessed by calling an automated phone system at 1-858-207-6277.

It is recommended that if you use any of these sources, you follow up by calling the church itself to verify the Mass times as some churches change times and the information may not be updated on the automated system.

Register now for fall soccer

Soccer Registration is underway for the JV (5th and 6th grade) and Varsity (7th and 8th grade) soccer fall season.

This season’s players are reporting a positive experience.Player’s are having fun learning and building personal confidence while getting exercise playing soccer for their school. All players play in the games and learn different skills and positions.

Sacred Heart's soccer organizer, Tom McManus, needs to register the teams with the Diocesan Soccer League (DSL) by the second week of July. The registration includes a team roster.

Reserve your player’s place soon; registrations need to be in place prior to July 10.

If you have questions or are interested in being a team parent or coach for either Varsity or JV, email Tom McManus at mcmanus.tom@gmail.com.

Participate in World Refugee Day

World Refugee Day in Pittsburgh will be 11 a.m to 2 p.m. Friday, June 20 in Market Square downtown. The event is being sponsored and coordinated by a variety of local organizations, including the region's refugee resettlement agencies.

The day will feature songs, performances, personal testimonies, food, and crafts from locally-resettled refugee communities.

Amy Raslevich, a Sacred Heart parent, is working with CISV to make welcome signs in various languages to bring to the event, to staff the children's activities area, and just to join in the celebrations to ensure that our area's newest residents know that they are welcome and have a safe and inclusive home here in Pittsburgh.

She is sharing this invitation with the Sacred Heart school community, because of its strong history of diversity and inclusion.

There is an online sign-up for those who plan to attend, and for those who may want to make a welcome sign for the event.

For more information, contact Amy Raselvich at araslevich@gmail.com.

June food: Hamburger helper

In conjunction with Sacred Heart Parish, the school will collect hamburger helper to be contributed to the food bank run by the East End Cooperative Ministry.

Each month, the Student Council members encourage all of us to contribute a different featured food to share with our neighbors in need. Thank you for your support.
