STFM Task Force Advocates for ACGME Requirements That Protect Time for FacultyThe next step for the STFM Protected Faculty Time Task Force is to develop and disseminate detailed Joint Guidelines for Protected Non-Clinical Time for Faculty in Family Medicine Residency Programs.
CERA Is Accepting Clerkship Director Survey Questions The survey will be conducted in late spring 2020. Researchers whose questions are included in the survey will have exclusive access to their portion of the survey results for 90 days. After the 90 days, the data will be added to the CERA data repository. The survey will collect demographic information in addition to submitted questions. Priority will be given to proposals that are likely to result in high-quality, peer-reviewed publications.

The ACGME's New Program Director's Guide Is Now Available The ACGME is pleased to announce the first release of the Program Directors’ Guide to the Common Program Requirements. Two versions are now available in eBook and interactive PDF formats for both residency and fellowship programs, including one-year fellowship programs. The eBook is available in the ACGME’s online learning portal, Learn at ACGME, and an interactive PDF (available on each specialty’s section) can be downloaded and printed if needed.

Exemplary Teaching Award Nominations Due March 1 The American Academy of Family Physicians is accepting nominations for the Exemplary Teaching Awards. These awards were developed by the Commission on Education in conjunction with the Commission on Membership and Member Services to acknowledge AAFP members who deserve recognition for excellence in teaching, as well as individuals who have implemented outstanding educational programs and/or developed innovative teaching models.
Thomas W. Johnson Award Nominations Due March 1 The Thomas W. Johnson Award for Career Contributions to Family Medicine Education, first presented in 1973, will be presented annually to an AAFP member who has made outstanding contributions to education for family medicine in family medicine. This award, as in previous years, will be presented at the 2020 Congress of Delegates, which will take place on Wednesday, October 14 in Chicago, IL.

Surgeon General Releases First Smoking Cessation Report in 30 Years Smoking Cessation: A Report of the Surgeon General is the 34th tobacco-related Surgeon General’s report published since 1964. In 1990, the Surgeon General issued the report, The Health Benefits of Smoking Cessation. The 2020 report summarizes the latest evidence
on cessation.
ACP Endorses Health Care Reform That Includes a Single Payer or Public Option The American College of Physicians has released a series of policy papers that outline its new position on health care reform. ACP, which represents 159,000 internal medicine specialists, is the largest medical specialty society in the world.
