Ron Southern: Archetype of the Albertan Entrepreneur

Ron Southern: Archetype of the Albertan Entrepreneur

This past week Calgary lost one of its greatest entrepreneurs, mentors and leaders: Ron Southern, who passed away at 85 years of age. Ron was the founder of ATCO Group and Spruce Meadows, and one of Calgary’s most respected business leaders over the past half-century.

Ron helped make Calgary a place that world leaders in politics and in business came together to discuss essential issues. His illustration of the Albertan dream, that if you work hard anything is possible here, is one of the best.

Business Tax Reduction Proposal to benefit all Calgary Chamber members moves forward

Yesterday, the Business Tax Reduction Proposal, a business tax rebate that could save every small- and medium-sized business hit by the economic downturn $2,400 – $14,000 was referred by a favourable vote of City Council to next week's priorities and finance committee.

We were happy to create the proposal in partnership with Ward 8 Councillor Evan Woolley and Calgary Economic Development, and we will continue to work on this project with administration and committee over the next few weeks.
