In February this year the Synod meeting witnessed a video testimony by Bishop Joseph of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP). The Bishop spoke about on-going harassment of Christians in the Philippines. On May 31st, the Synod of SA received new pleas for support.

Refugee Week (20-26 June) For planning worship services and events during Refugee Week, the Synod Refugee Advocacy Group has put together a one-page sheet of resources for congregations and information on ways you might like to support refugees.

During recent consultations for the Synod’s Strategic Plan, the consultation group was reminded that congregations missed the Synod Resourcing Days. In listening to what was said, it was decided at the February Synod meeting to hold a series of Resourcing Expo events throughout SA from Sept-Nov this year.

On Monday 7th June at 12:30 pm Rev Dr Aunty Denise Champion will be inducted into the role of Aboriginal Theologian in Residence at the Uniting College. This is a significant milestone as we live out the covenant between First and Second peoples.

• For the state of Victoria and its people as they come to terms with a further COVID-19 outbreak
• For all families that may be separated during this pandemic
• Ministers/Pastors/Lay Preachers as they continue to support congregations and the wider community
• For our frontline health workers and those involved in ministering to the sick
• We pray for the elderly that they are able to stay safe and well.

I can remember speaking at an ecumenical conference some years ago and mentioning the Trinity. During the question time a Methodist minister commented ‘Oh that’s the Sunday Methodist ministers have off and the service is left to the lay preachers.’
