Would you like to join the PTG?

By Danielle Mainiero-Cessna and Julie Evans
PTG President and Vice President

We would like to welcome nominations for the 2014-2015 Parent Teacher Guild (PTG). Please feel free to nominate yourself or someone else. We will check with nominees before putting them on the ballot.

Nominations can be submitted using this online form. The form includes more information about open positions.

Our PTG is more than just a fundraising committee; our key mission is to promote an environment at school where teachers and administrator can do their best work and our children can do their best learning.

Research shows that students whose parents are involved in their education have better grades, fewer discipline problems, and greater interest in school.  Volunteering also makes it easier to get to know teachers and other parents.

Please contact either of us if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Danielle Mainiero-Cessna, 2013-2014 PTG President
and Julie Evans, 2014-2015 PTG President

Business owners, your taxes can benefit SHES

Business owners can help parents send their children to our quality Catholic school. You can divert your state taxes to needy families for tuition assistance.

Go to newpa.com and register with the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED). Click on single application, upper right corner. Once you create a user name and password you are permanently registered. Apply as a for-profit entity.

Once you submit, a new application will come up for EITC or OSTC. You can apply for either. Right now, you can apply for OSTC since there is $20,000,000 available. The critical date coming up for new EITC  applications is July 1, 2014. This is the date you apply for your tax credit.

Please contact Dr. Ron Bowes of the Diocese of Pittsburgh at 412-456-3090 or rbowes@diopitt.org for more information.

April is National Autism month

Submitted by The Podgorski Family

For those who don't know, April is national Autism month. Autism is the fastest growing developmental disorder and affects 1 in 91 children.

More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than AIDS, cancer, and diabetes combined. In the U.S., a child is diagnosed with autism every 20 minutes.

Two years ago, our son Antonio was diagnosed with autism. Antonio has become our greatest teacher and we still learn something new from him everyday.

Just as every child is different and unique in their own way, so is every child you meet with autism. Please join us and spread the word of autism awareness this month.

To learn more, go to autismspeaks.org and check out the article (from the book) Ten Things Every Child With Autism Wishes You Knew by Ellen Notbohm.

Come to an Athletic Association meeting

If you are interested in getting involved with the Sacred Heart Athletic Association, please watch the calendar for our monthly meetings.  All are welcome. The next meeting is 7 p.m. Monday, April 7 and we welcome new members. There is always work to be done in regard to cross country, volleyball, basketball and (hopefully!) soccer.

If you have any questions, please contact current president Michele Cromer at mcromer@gtnlaw.com.

Thanks!

7th and 8th grade sports banquet is May 8

Please make sure to get your RSVP back to the office on time.  Athletes are invited along with their parents. There are no siblings or extended family as there is limited space in the auditorium and this event is to honor our 7th and 8th grade athletes.

A buffet dinner will be followed by an awards presentation. No jeans, shorts, or sweat pants are permitted; ties are not required.

If you can help with the banquet, please contact Michele Cromer at mcromer@gtnlaw.com, Jane Lucchino at jlucchino@me.com or Julie Brennan at tom1131@verizon.net.

April food: Peanut butter

In conjunction with Sacred Heart Parish, the school will collect peanut butter to be contributed to the food bank run by the East End Cooperative Ministry.

Each month, the Student Council members encourage all of us to contribute a different featured food to share with our neighbors in need. Thank you for your support.
