Permit Surcharge Fee Reduced

Beginning on July 1, 2015, the state surcharge applied to "fixed fee" building permits changes from $5 for each fixed fee permit to $1 for each fixed fee permit.

The second paragraph of Minnesota Statutes 326B.148, SURCHARGE, outlines the change:
Subdivision 1. Computation.

...If the fee for the permit issued is fixed in amount the surcharge is equivalent to one-half mill (.0005) of the fee or $1, except that effective July 1, 2010, until June 30, 2015, the permit surcharge is equivalent to one-half mill (.0005) of the fee or $5, whichever amount is greater.

A State Budget Deal, Finally?

In the budget session that just won’t end, the House GOP and Governor may have finally reached an agreement to finalize the budget and close up the legislative shop for the year. BATC is watching a handful of environmental provisions, as well as workforce housing and energy provisions.

Pre-Treat for Termites? Here?

Last week BATC was contacted by Star Tribune reporter Jim Buchta who was seeking feedback regarding a HUD rule update which would require new homes with FHA loans built in the southern half of MN (all of BATC) to be pretreated for termites beginning in the fall of 2015.

This was news to us, as BATC, BAM nor any other local HBA has been contacted by HUD. We’ve heard from some BATC members who report that termites "simply can’t exist in our climate." If that is the consensus among the scientific experts, a change will be in order. We are working locally with DLI, as well as BAM and the Realtor community to begin to address this with HUD & FHA. We will keep you apprised of any updates. Read more >>
