May 2021 Message from the PowerHealth TeamWelcome to the latest edition of PowerPoints. We are proud of the contribution our team makes to support our clients and the critical services that health professionals are delivering across the globe. In this newsletter we are delighted to share the positive outcomes of Quebec’s CPSS Portal project. 2021 is flying by and we’re excited for what lies ahead with many exciting new modules and product enhancements planned. Stay tuned! PowerHealth NewsCPSS PORTAL: A Major Advancement in the Management of Healthcare in QuebecThe CPSS Portal is a user-friendly tool that enables province-wide analysis and comparison of financial and clinical data. It is currently used by 30 healthcare establishments, as well as the Ministry of Health and Social Services in Quebec. With the Portal and its detailed graphics, it is now possible to analyse data on short stays, day surgery, emergency department as well as outpatient visits. Users can now query data by selecting different indicators that will provide, for instance, the average encounter costs with a surgical procedure or primary diagnosis. Beyond costs, the Portal also offers some quality-of-care indicators, providing insight to initiate discussions about best medical practices. Available since December 2019, the Portal now features complete data for four fiscal years. We have created a short video to explain the giant step forward Quebec has made in managing healthcare with this tool. THE CPSS-COVID PROJECT:A Shaping Tool for Effective Management of the Pandemic in QuebecThe CPSS-COVID Project uses the CPSS infrastructure to automate the daily transmission of data needed to manage this unprecedented health crisis. Sourced from more than 500 databases and 30 healthcare establishments, the data is submitted to a centralised store at the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS). This project aims to extract the related data from the most widely used source systems across the healthcare and social services network. Five specific areas were targeted: Wards and Beds, Admissions, Theatre, Imaging and Outpatients. The objective is to allow the MSSS to easily have a daily picture of the situation and the healthcare establishments’ capacity. This project will also make it possible to quantify the impact of the pandemic on the level of activity and better plan its recovery. Understanding and subsequently measuring your expected Return on investment (ROI), takes the guesswork out of making business decisions and will provide the basis from which a strong Business Case for the investment can be made. Healthcare ROI encompasses more than money saved or earned; it must also account for qualitative benefits such as improved patient experience, safety and opportunities to strengthen relationships with patients, as well as streamlined clinical operations among other measures. Our White Paper documents the expected areas for an ROI that should be considered during the preparation of a business case for a patient billing system. There was great group participation as we shared:
Thank you to all attendees for their valuable participation and stay tuned for details of similar sessions to be announced in other states. Andrew from PowerHealth presents to PPM Victoria User Group Attendees Unifying Cross Border HealthWe value the variety of experience we gain from partnerships across different countries, states and regions, and are delighted to further grow our footprint in regional Victoria, by partnering with Albury Wodonga Health (AWH) as they replace their cross-border health services’ patient administration system (PAS). As part of the AWH transformation, we are continuing to collaborate with Dedalus, by integrating our PowerBilling & Revenue Collection (PBRC) solution within the Dedalus Care Suite platform. The flexibility of PBRC and its integration with Dedalus Care Suite will simplify the complex challenges AWH faces in managing Visiting Medical Officer payments and Patient Billing in both New South Wales and Victoria, in addition helping to manage the comprehensive range of billing situations seen in every Australian health service. St Patrick's PartnershipOur partnership with St Patrick’s Mental Health Services (SPMHS) in Dublin, Ireland, continues to strengthen with the Dean Clinic go-live this month. This is the 3rd phased go-live of PBRC-IE since we began working together in 2017. Delivering success not only relies on great products, but strong partnerships and our work with SPMHS is a great example of this. Planning for a further optimisation phase will commence later in the year. How to Analyse Incidents in HealthcareA systematic analysis and classification of incidents is essential to improve quality and safety in your healthcare organisation. There are various methods, which can be divided into two different approaches: retrospective versus prospective. A retrospective analysis looks back on what happened. It is a structured approach that leads to finding basic causes of (near) incidents. A prospective risk analysis helps you understand how systems or processes can fail. This knowledge can be used to anticipate potential errors. In our article ‘How to Analyse Incidents in Healthcare’, we discuss several methods of incident and risk analysis.
