My name is Kay Schachner, student program coordinator for The Institute of Politics Elsie Hillman Civic Forum. I am reaching out to let you know about a semester-long credit-bearing program next semester called Institute of Politics Internship and Seminar.
In this interdisciplinary program, students are placed with a local, state, or federal elected official who makes policy decisions for the Wester PA region. The accompanying weekly seminar, taught by experienced government affairs professionals, teaches students about the historical, economic, and social background of Western Pennsylvania, so students can consider the various factors that influence decision makers. The program is open to any major, and participating students receive four credits in either Political Science or Public Service. Students from Allegheny and surrounding counties are eligible for the Fulton Award, a $2,000 scholarship to pay for expenses during the program semester.
