Reflection

Prayer of Peace
God of Peace,
We pray for peace around the world.
Where there is hatred, sow seeds of calm.
Where there is destruction, help us to rebuild.
Where children are crying, bring an end to tears.
Shelter your people and protect them.
Guide them and keep them from harm.
Amen.

Greg's Message

Hello Parents and Friends of St Anne’s
Last Sunday was a busy, but most satisfying day for many families of St. Anne’s. It began with the Foundation 2019/2020 hospitality mass. This mass was extremely well attended by 2019/20 Foundation families. I thank the families, staff and Fr. Toan for their participation in the service. As this was our final hospitality mass for the year, I’d like to take this opportunity of thanking the families and staff who have supported our hospitality masses this year. Further thanks to Fr John and Fr Toan for their wonderful support. It has been great to observe the children’s participation in the readings, gifts, singing and altar serving.

Working Bee
Sunday afternoon saw our final working bee for the year, and it too was well attended. Jobs completed included the following: new mulch for the junior playground, replacing a broken toilet seat, fixing broken wire on a cyclone fence, digging over vegetable beds, weeding, painting skirting boards, cleaning out grates in the staff car park and reorganising/tidying up of hall plates, cutlery etc. To those people who have assisted us at the working bees this year, I thank you sincerely. Your voluntary work and generosity of spirit has assisted the school enormously. Special thanks to Syl Longo and Clare Bellio who have coordinated and prepared four successful working bees this year.

Foundation Orientation Program
Last Thursday we enjoyed a social evening as 2020 Foundation parents mingled with each other and staff. Many thanks to the parents who set up and served the food and drinks. Our 2020 Foundation Orientation Program concludes on Tuesday 10th December. This session (2:30pm-3:15pm) will see our Foundation students meet their year 6 buddies.

School Fees
We still have a significant amount of school fees outstanding. For those concerned your attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

School Closure Day
A reminder that there will be no classes for students on Monday 25th November as staff undertake a 2020 planning day.

Sexuality Education
A reminder to all year 5/6 families that tonight at 7pm in the hall we are having a Sexuality Education night. This session will be run by Jacinta Holland and it is expected that all 5/6 families will avail themselves of this valuable opportunity.

Congratulations
Congratulations to Craig Rodda and Mirella Grimaldi on their wedding last Sunday. We wish you continued happiness.

Student Representative Council Initiative

This Friday, 22nd November will be the last official day for collecting plastic lids for donation to Envision Hands. We have collected two Reflex Paper Boxes filled with lids so far and the SRC are very proud of the efforts families have made.
So if you have not been collecting Code 2 and 4 lids up until now please help us to fill another box before Mrs Morsley delivers the lids next week.

Student Wellbeing

As part of our Healthy Bodies, healthy minds Inquiry unit that is being taught across all levels,  we have been promoting the idea of creating something before switching on a screen. Children have been ‘strongly’ encouraged to make or create something before turning on the iPad, computer, xbox, iphone etc. It could be a drawing, a painting, a dance , a song, a lego construction , a box creation, a cake. The possibilities are endless. This week some of the children brought their creations to school to share at assembly. They were very proud and excited at what they had been able  to do.

Creating things and being productive makes us happy.  Sadly the research is telling us that some children are spending up to 5 hours a day on screens. This is a horrendous statistic. Not only are children not playing or communicating with their families they are watching things that are inappropriate and dangerous for their developing brains. It's beneficial for us adults as well, to be  more engaged and connected with those around us too.
We are very much looking forward to next weeks assembly to see what has been created.

Resilience Project
On Monday night eight of the staff attended The Resilience Project at the Melbourne convention centre. Hugh Van Cuylenburg spoke about finding Happiness through Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness.  At St Anne's we already practise Mindfulness daily. Next year our focus will be Gratitude. We can all start this at home by shifting the question from "What did you do today" to “What are three things that went well for you today”?

Cybersafety

The government website has updated their parent support and added a young people section to help guide with online security and social media use. It is well worth a look even as a prompt to start a conversation at home.
