Hello Parents and Friends of St. Anne’s
Our students are getting very excited with just two days to go until our whole school twilight sports. A reminder that all students are to be seated in their house area at 4:45pm at Genazzano, as we are aiming to start at 5pm.
Open Days
Our “Open Days” are on Wednesday March 20th, Thursday, March 21st and Tuesday March 26th from 9:30am - 1pm.
Enrolment tours and talks will be occurring on these days. If you know of families who have children set to commence school next year please “promote” these days and our great school! It is important to note that tours and talks are not restricted to these three days. I have already undertaken a number of tours.
Year 5/6 Sport
This Friday in our Year 5/6 interschool sport program we are playing Sacred Heart, Kew at 1:30pm. Netball is at Sacred Heart and t-ball and cricket will be played at Rhylah Oval, Kew.
Twilight Sports
Our annual twilight sports for all Foundation - Year 6 students will be held at Genazzano on Friday 15th March, beginning at 5pm, concluding at around 7pm. Please be advised that this is a “no alcohol” school event.

Can we have as many hands on board on Tuesday 19th March after school to do a last minute tidy up before our Discovery Days on Wednesday, Thursday and Tuesday of the following week.

6 Elements and 6 Simple Actions for your Wellbeing
Wellbeing is something many of us aim for, but it can be hard to find the way forward. Martin Seligman who has worked to understand and promote happiness, optimism and wellbeing offered the PERMA framework in his book ‘Flourish’. This PERMA model can guide us in the components of wellbeing and how we can develop it for ourselves. Many others have since added the H for Health. Each letter in the PERMAH framework refers to a pillar that contributes to our wellbeing, or what Seligman refers to as our level of ‘flourishing’. Therefore, the six elements for our Wellbeing are: Positive emotion (P); Engagement (E); Relationships (R); Meaning (M); Accomplishment (A); and Health (H).
-
Positive emotion (P) encourages individuals to “anticipate, initiate, prolong and build positive emotional experiences” and accept and develop healthy responses to negative emotions (Norrish, Robinson & Williams 2013). Experiencing positive emotion has been found to benefit mental and physical health, social relationships and academic outcomes (Lyubomirsky, King & Diener 2005).
-
Action- Forget FOMO. Spend time appreciating what you do have, rather than wishing for more.
-
Engagement (E) involves living a life high in interest, curiosity and absorption and pursuing goals with determination and vitality (Norrish, Robinson & Williams 2013). Engagement is linked to wellbeing, learning and the accomplishment of important goals (Froh et al 2010; Hunter & Csikszentmihalyi 2003). When we experience engagement in our present moment and surroundings, a state of absorption is experienced. It can lead to you feeling ‘in the flow’.
-
Action - Put your phone away at meal times so you can enjoy and be present to who you are with and what you are eating.
-
Relationships (R) consists of “developing social and emotional skills to enable the development of nourishing relationships with self and others” (Norrish, Robinson & Williams 2013). The longest and most comprehensive study of adult development ever performed, with over 75 years of data found that close relationships were far more important than money or fame, and better predictor of long and happy lives than social class, IQ or genes (George Vaillant, 2004)
-
Action - When you are talking to a friend or loved one, ask more questions and listen actively.
-
Meaning (M) is about developing an understanding of the benefits of serving a cause greater than ourselves and engaging in related activities (Norrish, Robinson & Williams 2013). Having a purpose in life is correlated to good physical health, high life satisfaction and strong relationships and is protective against depression and risky behaviours (Cotton Bronk et al 2009; Damon et al 2003).
-
Action - Start small and smile at someone, pick up some litter or open the door for people.
-
Accomplishment (A) involves striving for and achieving meaningful outcomes (Norrish, Robinson & Williams 2013). Research suggests a bi-directional relationship between flourishing and positive accomplishment (Norrish, Robinson & Williams 2013). Mental health is a requisite for effective learning – it makes our minds available for learning (Hendren, Birrel Weisen & Orley 1994). In addition, the accomplishment of worthwhile goals leads to positive emotions and wellbeing (Sheldon et al 2010).
-
Action - Set a short term goal and celebrate when you achieve it.
-
Health (H) refers to establishing habits that support positive physical and psychological health (Norrish, Robinson & Williams 2013). Life is easier and better when we are healthy.
-
Action - Start with getting a good night sleep.

Parents and Friends Report
Terms 1 is extremely busy but the P& F Committee has been very well supported by the school community in the range of activities we have undertaken so far. We are very lucky to have so many generous contributors as well as individuals who are prepared to step up and take the lead co-ordinating them.
At last week’s P&F meeting we reviewed the recent Working Bee, Family night at MCC Kew and the Parish Picnic. It was really good to reflect on the involvement of so many families and students in these activities. A progress report from the Dinner Dance committee was received and it is clear there are some exciting ideas in the pipeline for this year’s event! It was also very encouraging to hear that we have Class Representatives for the Foundation and Junior levels sorted out. We now just need a few more volunteers for the Middles and Seniors so, please consider. Finally, we discussed the project for resurfacing the Lower Courts and the quotations for the new surface that have been received. We are now sorting through some issues associated with adjoining trees and their root systems and the retaining wall on the eastern side of the courts.
The P&F will again be fundraising through Cadbury Easter Egg sales and we’ll need all families to get behind this initiative. Boxes will be sent home this week with helpful tips and suggestions. With the Twilight Sports on Friday this week, volunteers are required for the set-up, clean up and BBQ/Drinks stall. Both of these activities raise vital funds that go towards things like Grandparents Day and the School disco so your support is very important. Please see link below to sign up and help out!!

Finally, the traditional welcome drinks for Foundation and Year 1 parents took place recently. The evening was generously hosted by Fiona Clancy and James Gledden and there were over 35 parents and friends in attendance. It was a great opportunity for new parents and friends to meet one another in a relaxed setting and for existing parents and friends to renew their associations. We thank Fiona and James for their hospitality and Lisa Hodgkinson for co-ordinating the invitations and P&F support.
