On January 11, with help from staff and volunteers in the District's Information Technology and Instructional Technology Departments, the Foundation distributed 76 refurbished and surplus laptop computers to district families who demonstrated financial need. These computers have been rotated out of District computer inventories, but will go on to very useful lives for students and their families. Access to computers outside of school time is an important part of Bridging the Digital Divide for all of our students.
"By putting a laptop in every home, we help to close the digital divide and allow all our students to extend their learning to home. Students can more easily work on assignments that are given online, email their teachers, and practice important academic skills," said Kim Mathey, manager of the District's Instructional Technology Department.
To date, this joint program between the school district and Foundation has given away over 1,100 surplus computers to district families.
