Bridging the Digital Divide: Surplus Laptops Delivered to Families

On January 11, with help from staff and volunteers in the District's Information Technology and Instructional Technology Departments, the Foundation distributed 76 refurbished and surplus laptop computers to district families who demonstrated financial need. These computers have been rotated out of District computer inventories, but will go on to very useful lives for students and their families. Access to computers outside of school time is an important part of Bridging the Digital Divide for all of our students.

"By putting a laptop in every home, we help to close the digital divide and allow all our students to extend their learning to home. Students can more easily work on assignments that are given online, email their teachers, and practice important academic skills," said Kim Mathey, manager of the District's Instructional Technology Department.

To date, this joint program between the school district and Foundation has given away over 1,100 surplus computers to district families.

Foundation Announces New Donor Recognition Program

The Foundation for Edmonds School District has announced a new donor recognition program designed to recognize and thank the generous support of our communities in helping to shape students’ futures.

“When we give to the Foundation for Edmonds School District, we are confident that our investment will have a far-reaching impact in students’ lives now and in their future after graduation,” said Todd and Christi Flynn, donors from Edmonds. “We are enthusiastic about the many ways the Foundation supports district students — scholarship funds for PSAT tests in high school, paying for college in the high school credits and classroom grants that enrich teachers’ ambitious lesson plans. Rising graduation rates in our district is one of several key indicators that show us we have invested wisely.”

Our donors enable the Foundation for Edmonds School District to make a positive impact for our students and educators. We wish to take this opportunity to thank all our donors for their incredibly generous support, and for shaping students’ futures. We would like to offer an extra special thanks to our donors who contributed $10,000 or more to the Foundation in 2016.
