QSO Kicks Off Monumental 70th Anniversary Season

Queensland Symphony Orchestra launched its 70th anniversary season with sparkle and spectacle in its season opener, conducted by Music Director Alondra de la Parra. 

Season 2017 brings a year of musical favourites, international superstars and world-firsts. Highlights include the return of Conductor Laureate Johannes Fritzsch alongside THE Liszt specialist Leslie Howard on 11 March, the Australian Premiere of iconic composer Philip Glass’ new symphony on 21 and 22 April and Carmen - the world’s number one opera - in concert on 23 November. Coming up on 25 March, as part of its contemporary music program QSOCurrent, the Orchestra will join Ed Kuepper to perform his latest release and old favourites.

In another coup for 2017, QSO has secured the world’s greatest violinist, Maxim Vengerov, as its Artist-in-Residence.

BCEC Sets Up Special Dietary Kitchen – An Australian First For Convention Centres

Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) is tackling the growing trend of increasing dietary requests head on, with the establishment of a dedicated Special Dietary Kitchen in a bid to streamline the process, improve the product offering and enhance the dining experience for clients.

Former Queensland Ambassador Chef, David Pugh whose much acclaimed Restaurant Two was the recipient of multiple chefs hats and remained at the top of Brisbane’s fine dining scene for almost two decades, will operate the Dietary Kitchen as part of his new role as Executive Sous Chef, Development for BCEC.

David will work alongside the Centre’s consultant Nutritionist, Kerry Leech, who is Nutritionist to the Queensland Firebirds. David will also have the support of the other BCEC Executive and senior chefs, considered one of strongest and most experienced senior kitchen management teams in the country under the leadership of long term Executive Chef, Martin Latter.

RACQ International Women’s Day Fun Run 2017

On Sunday 5 March a record breaking 12 000 people will be making their way to the South Bank precinct to take part in Brisbane’s biggest celebration of women, the RACQ International Women’s Day Fun Run event! 

If you missed out on securing your spot at the start-line, you can still celebrate the women in your life by helping to raise $400 000 for vital support services and life-saving breast cancer research at Mater.

Your donation will go to Mater Chicks in Pink to help provide tangible support services such as counselling, yoga and art therapy, as well as mastectomy bras for women who have lost one or both breasts.

West Village Ice Cream Festival - 11 March

Have you heard the scoop? Brisbane is set to take a trip down memory lane by hosting the first ever Brisbane Ice Cream Festival in the historic Peter’s Ice Cream Factory - 11 March!

BSB Member West Village will pay homage to the inner-city suburb’s industrial past.

The Festival will bring together some of Brisbane’s coolest dessert masters, including Minus 32, Frozen Sunshine, Queen of Pops and Mister Fitz - it will be the first time since its closure in 1996 that the Peter’s Ice Cream Factory will be filled with ice cream!

Free Fitness in the Fresh Air – Medibank Feel Good Program

South Bank’s regular fitness classes are back from March til May with new classes to help you wind down after a long day in the office.

The Medibank Feel Good program runs Monday to Thursday evenings at 5.45pm, as well as Wednesday and Saturday mornings with a range of classes from relaxing yoga to high-energy Zumba®.
