WAITS-MAST FALL RELEASE - THREE NEW 2012 PINOT NOIR WINES

Our Fall release Pinot Noir wines are here and if you saw our preview, we have filled in the blanks to our Waits-Mast Libs descriptions. The three new wines being released round out the lineup of our five single-vineyard Pinot Noir wines from the 2012 vintage. 2012 was the first vintage in which we sourced all of our fruit exclusively from vineyards in Mendocino County. 2012 is often referred to as the "Goldilocks" vintage - not too hot, not to cool, just right. Indeed, these are all consistently great wines and their flavors and balance reflect the moderate 2012 vintage.

For our mailing list members, we are also offering a limited special on shipping. Starting today, mailing list customers and Wine Club members can get 50% off shipping charges when ordering three or more bottles of any wine. This offer is available until Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 11:59pm PT.

And so, without further adieu, here are the new releases from Waits-Mast for Fall 2014:

New 2012 Waits-Mast Pinot Noir Releases

2012 Waits-Mast Pinot Noir, Wentzel Vineyard, Anderson Valley: Wentzel Vineyard is in the heart of Anderson Valley, located in the hills above KZYX, Mendocino's local public radio station. In years past, our  vineyard block has been quite popular with a small bear who likes to munch on the berries. The 2012 Wentzel strikes such a great balance with bright fruit and savory, earthy flavors. It opens with aromas of raspberry, blackberry and hints of forest floor. Our Wentzel is known for its long finish and the 2012 does not disappoint with a clean, brisk and fine tannin finish that lingers with a savory mushroom note. Only 50 cases produced. $45/bottle (750ml). PURCHASE NOW

2012 Waits-Mast Pinot Noir, Oppenlander Vineyard, Mendocino County: Oppenlander vineyard is located about eight and a half miles from the coast, in the town of Comptche. It is owned by the Shandels, 5th generation owners of the property, which was originally homesteaded by their ancestors from Denmark. The 2012 Oppenlander is reminiscent of our 2009 edition of this wine, the first year we made a Pinot Noir from Oppenlander vineyard. The 2012 has even more layers, thanks to the addition of Dijon 115 and Pommard clones. On the nose, a hint of warm spice mixes with red cherry high tones for subtle aromatics. On the palate, a combination of sweet and sour cherry and creamy raspberry are wrapped in a taut package that shows a lot of balance. Only 95 cases produced. $44/bottle (750ml). PURCHASE NOW

2012 Waits-Mast Pinot Noir, Mariah Vineyard, Mendocino Ridge: This is our first wine from Mendocino Ridge, a remote and higher elevation appellation that is sort of the wild west of Pinot Noir growing in Mendocino County. Mariah (pronounced ma-RYE-uh) vineyard, planted by Dan Dooling and Vicki Tomola, is named after a song "They Call the Wind Maria" from the musical, Paint Your Wagon. Grown at 2400 foot elevation, we get fruit from a block in which the Pinot Noir was grafted to Syrah rootstock and is dry-farmed. The wine has hints of white pepper, cedar and earth on the nose and darker, wild berry fruits, all the makings of a wine that comes from mountain fruit. Only 98 cases produced. $42/bottle (750ml). PURCHASE NOW

We previewed these three wines at Pinot on the River in Healdsburg recently and the crowd loved them all - from the elegance of the Wentzel, the red cherry hightones of the Oppenlander and the spicy Mariah. If you would like to purchase these and add our other wines, including the 2012 Deer Meadows and 2012 Nash Mill, to your shipment, any of the wines in our webstore are eligible for the 50% shipping discount.
