Resources for Students in Need

With the changing seasons and the holidays approaching, food insecurity can become a greater concern for some in our community. Community members will find on-campus and off-campus resources on this webpage.

Reminder: Pitt Pantry Offering Critical Resources

Pitt affiliates impacted by the recent disruption in SNAP benefit disbursements are encouraged to utilize available campus and community resources, including the Pitt Pantry and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. The Pitt Pantry will continue operating on its regular fall semester schedule and is closely monitoring inventory in anticipation of increased demand. All students (graduate and undergraduate), faculty, and staff are welcome to visit the Pantry to supplement their nutrition with healthy, no-cost food options.
Additionally, students are encouraged to contact the Care and Resource Support Office for assistance in accessing additional resources. This office is dedicated to addressing a wide range of student needs and connecting students with appropriate support services.

Regional Undergraduate Psychology Conference, Duquesne University

Duquesne University Psychology Department is still accepting abstracts for presentations from undergrads at our Regional Undergraduate Psychology Conference! I have attached the CFP and flyer again if you would like to share with your undergrads.

The Duquesne University Psychology Department is excited to announce that this year's Regional Undergraduate Psychology Conference will be held on Saturday, April 18th, 2026. We would like to invite undergraduate students from all schools across the Pittsburgh area to share their theoretical or empirical academic projects in psychology with the broader community at this event. Affiliation with Duquesne is not required for participation. This year, the conference will center around papers and posters that focus on the theme "culture, community, and being", although submissions do not have to fall strictly within the theme.

Interested students should submit a 250-500 word abstract explaining their submission. Students should also include the name and contact information of a faculty or graduate student mentor, as well as their school and department.

Please send your abstract to duqrupc@gmail.com by March 25th, 2026.

GRADUATE SCHOOL INFORMATION

A Pitt2Pitt Opportunity: March 28 Explore MS Engineering Pathways

If you’re a student in mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science, or another STM field and are curious about expanding your technical skill set in a more applied direction, I encourage you to attend the upcoming (Pitt)sburgh & Our Neighbors MS Engineering Open House hosted by the Swanson School of Engineering on Saturday, March 28 (12–3pm). The open house brings multiple regional MS engineering programs together in one place (such as Pitt, Carnegie Mellon, Case Western, Ohio State…), making it easy to ask questions, compare options, and simply learn what’s possible.

This event is designed to help you explore how your strong quantitative foundation could translate into industry-focused careers in areas like data science, biomedical technologies, energy systems, advanced manufacturing, and more. A Master of Science in Engineering can be a practical bridge between theory and application – particularly in a competitive job market where additional technical depth can make a difference.

POST-GRADUATE OPPORTUNITIES

Lab Manager Position, Virginia Tech

Applications are invited for a full-time lab manager position in the Spectrum of Psychopathology and Affective Neuroscience (SPAN) lab directed by Dr. Adrienne Romer, in the Department of Psychology at Virginia Tech. The lab studies the etiology, risk markers, and development of psychopathology using transdiagnostic, dimensional, and neuroscience-informed approaches. We combine clinical, cognitive-affective, and multi-modal neuroimaging (structural and functional MRI) data to examine transdiagnostic risk markers of psychopathology at multiple levels of analysis. For more information, see our lab website: https://www.romer-spanlab.com/

The individual who fills this position will be involved in all aspects of the research process, with duties including (but not limited to):

  • Coordinating daily lab operations and maintaining study protocols and lab resources (website, manuals, standard operating procedures, documentation)
  • Collecting, entering, managing, and ensuring quality of clinical, behavioral, neurocognitive, and MRI data
  • Recruiting, screening, scheduling, consenting, and running participants through study protocols, including MRI scanning
  • Supervising undergraduate research assistants
  • Assisting with IRB management, grant applications, data processing and analysis, and manuscript preparation.

Required qualifications include: BA/BS in psychology, neuroscience, or related field; one year of human subjects research experience; demonstrated computer skills, and proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or equivalent; demonstrated organizational, time-management, interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills and attention to detail; willingness to be trained and certified to conduct MRI scans.

Training for all aspects of the position, including MRI certification, will be provided. This is an excellent position for candidates interested in gaining research experience prior to graduate school in psychology, neuroscience, or related fields.

To apply, please send a cover letter describing interest in and fit with the position, CV/Resume, and contact information for two references (no need to submit letters) to aromer@vt.edu.

The position is expected to start in early Summer 2026. Consideration of applications will begin immediately and on a rolling basis and will end when the position is filled.

Child Disability Research Coordinator,

The Youth VIEW Team is hiring! We are seeking a full-time research coordinator to join our federally funded study examining social and emotional factors that influence mental and physical health of children with blindness or visual impairment. This project is supported by a five-year R01 grant funded by the National Eye Institute, currently in the second year of the award. The study is moving quickly, and we are seeking a full-time coordinator to join our team, which includes two other full-time staff along with graduate and undergraduate research assistants. To learn more about our project, check out our website or the NIH Reporter description of our project.

This position would be excellent for someone with an undergraduate degree in psychology or a related field looking for additional research training before pursuing graduate school. Duties include study administrative management, IRB submissions, financial processing, participant recruitment (with some travel for recruitment events), conducting human subjects research with blind or visually impaired youth (ages 9-17) and their parent or guardian, and data management and processing. Opportunities to present scientific research at academic conferences and to contribute to manuscripts are available, both for data from this study (as it is collected) and, on a volunteer basis, from the two Principal Investigators’ existing research projects.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position requiring at minimum 12-month commitment (we anticipate that this position will be available for at least 3+ years, for those interested in a longer position, but a commitment beyond one year is not required). Relocation to the study administrative site is strongly preferred. Candidates may start as soon as April 2026, with options for later start dates (e.g., early summer) for those graduating this spring.

Applications will be reviewed starting immediately until the position is filled, with full consideration to all applications submitted by March 15. To apply, please submit a cover letter and CV, along with contact information for three professional references, to the TTU HR portal here (or go to https://www.texastech.edu/careers/ and search for position 43871BR). Please direct questions to both Dr. Victor at sarah.victor@ttu.edu and Dr. Schmidt at adam.t.schmidt@ttu.edu. Pursuant to Texas Tech policy, we are unable to sponsor new H-1B petitions (see disclaimer on HR website for details).
