LOUDOUN RAIL NOW STATEMENT ON
TODAY’S SILVER LINE VOTE

Loudoun Board votes 5-4 to support this critical project

DULLES, Va., July 3, 2012 – Loudoun Rail Now (LRN) and its thousands of supporters are thrilled that the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors has taken the bold and forward-thinking step of approving the Silver Line to Loudoun County today.  The 5-4 vote moves Loudoun forward to continued economic prosperity with greater connectivity and engagement with metropolitan Washington.

“With the financing plan in place and almost every question raised and answered by the Board during this process, this is an extremely positive step for Loudoun County and the region,” stated Patty Nicoson of the Dulles Corridor Rail Association. “On behalf of the tens of thousands of supports of Loudoun Rail Now, we thank the Board for their leadership on this critical decision today.”

Loudoun Rail Now has spent months sharing factual information about this fifty-year plan to bring Metro to Dulles Airport and Loudoun’s twenty-year effort to bring rail to Loudoun County.  Along the way the organization has collected over 7,100 signatures in what has become one of the largest petition drives in Loudoun County history.

Nicoson stated, “Loudoun Rail Now and supporters of the Silver Line have made a compelling case that the vast majority of the County supports this investment.  Today’s vote has proven that fact.”

Loudoun Rail Now thanks the Board for conducting an exhaustive and inclusive evaluation resulting in all voices having been heard. The Supervisors are to be commended for their hours of due diligence and deliberation at this key juncture in the history of Loudoun County.
