Ricco/Maresca Gallery, NY

Frank Jones

until January 13, 2018

"Insiders" at Ricco/Maresca Gallery points to the central paradox of outsider art, whereby exclusion magically becomes exclusivity — a mystifying, ambiguous circumstance in a society of discrimination and privilege. Featuring the works of Henry Ray Clark and Frank Jones, both from Texas. Both artists were incarcerated in the Huntsville State Prison at different times, creating powerful and distinct bodies of work that quickly transcended its walls.

Damian LeBas RIP, 1963–2017

We were shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Damian LeBas who became well known as an outsider artist in Britain and then went on to become an important figure in the struggle for Romany rights. With his wife, fellow artist Delaine LeBas, he was at the forefront of Romany and Gypsy cultural events right across Europe. He was a warm, humorous and much loved person who will be sorely missed. Our heartfelt condolences go to Delaine and son Damian and all his family.
