THE ULTIMATE CHRISTMAS SUB Subway has unveiled their Christmas menu which features their brand-new Pig in Blanket sub. The festive sandwich features a six-inch sausage wrapped in bacon on Subway’s new crusty tiger bread and drizzled with Southwest sauce. Available in a six inch or footlong size, the Pig in Blanket sub is customisable and can be served in a wrap or salad. The Christmas menu also includes a Pigs in Blankets pot for a bite sized snack and a Turkey Breast SubStack with hash browns and melted cheese. 2. CHRISTMAS IN A PIZZAEmbracing the holiday festivities, Pizza Hut UK have launched a limited-time Christmas Pizza earlier this week. The pizza encapsulates the best elements of a traditional dinner “without having to suffer a sprout” by featuring rotisserie chicken, crispy bacon, and sage and onion stuffing toppings on a red wine gravy base. The Christmas pizza will be available throughout the festive season and if consumers want a full feast, Pizza Hut Delivery is also offering a Christmas pizza deal for £35 which includes three large pizzas, two classic sides and a 1.5L bottle of drink. 3. RETAIL CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWNAfter the year it’s been, the Christmas countdown is well underway with most retailers releasing their Christmas adverts this week. The John Lewis and Waitrose advert pulls on the heart strings same as in previous years and Aldi’s Kevin the carrot story line is about bringing families together. Despite the uncertainty around gatherings this festive season, Nielsen suggests supermarkets are in for record sales this Christmas, estimating consumers will spend £2bn more in supermarkets during the last 12 weeks of the year, an expected 7% growth on last year. 4. CHIPOTLE'S DIGITAL KITCHEN SPACEChipotle Mexican Grill has introduced a completely digital restaurant currently being trialed in New York City. The concept is fueled by the increasing number of online sales, which were growing even before the pandemic. In the past quarter, delivery sales made up 48% of Chipotle's sales. The digital restaurant kitchen will prepare orders placed through the brand’s app, website or third-party delivery services and food will be available for delivery or pickup. This strategic move will allow Chipotle to reach more urban consumers and non-traditional locations. 5. THE FLAT IRON BUTCHER'S BOXFlat Iron, the “single steak” dining franchise has launched a limited-edition butcher box and online shop. Each box contains a mixture of prime steaks and secondary cuts, all seam-butchered to exacting standards for customers to recreate the restaurant’s signature dishes at home. The box also contains burgers, a lean blend of mince and a traditionally prepared hind-quarter roasting joint. The Flat Iron’s online shop also sells branded cleavers and whiskey flasks to provide the full effect. 6. NEW YEAR, NEW MCDONALD'SMcDonald's announced new strategies for next year including the launch of a new plant-based range as part of their ‘Accelerating the Arches’ programme. This programme plans to maximize digital marketing efforts and refocus on the brand’s core products. After a successful trial in Canada, the McPlant Burger will be introduced into several other markets with the potential to expand their plant-based offerings to include plant-based chicken and breakfast sandwiches. 7. KFC CHRISTMAS BURGERKFC have announced the upcoming launch of a new Christmas burger. Seeing that gravy is a critical part to any Christmas dinner, KFC has created a specially shaped hash brown to hold the gravy stacked on top of a mini chicken fillet. The gravy itself comes in a pot to allow customers to pour themselves for a personal touch. The Christmas burger is available until the 3rd January and also features a gravy mayonnaise and cheese. 8. MINDFUL CHEF x LEONLeon has partnered up with Mindful Chef to provide limited-edition meal boxes of the brand’s signature dishes that consumers would normally grab for lunch when out and about. Until the end of November, consumers can order Leon's £4.50 boxes that include pre-portioned ingredients, condiments and step-by-step instructions. Mindful Chef has previously worked with Nando’s as they try to make healthy food options more accessible during this time. 9. BOUJEE FOR THE 'GRAMBoujee, Liverpool’s new vibrant, trend-driven concept, promises to be the city’s most Instagrammable venue and is set to open next month. Spanning a 9,600 square foot unit set across two floors, Boujee plans to evolve from a family-friendly environment during the day into a buzzing, adult environment in the evening offering a range of shared dishes, sushi and signature drinks. The venue boasts numerous Instagram-friendly photo opportunities including a pink convertible car, giant candy, ‘pool’ party and Alice in Boujeeland areas.
