Remember Meerkat? The first real live-streaming app was the hit of last year's SXSW conference. Now it's dead. The writing was probably on the wall when rival Periscope was snapped up by Twitter for a cool $100m. Then followed Facebook Live and live-streaming went mainstream. The rapid demise of Meerkat is still somewhat of a surprise and an indication of how fast-moving and fickle social media can be.
