Last Wednesday (10 February) Council's Planning and Economic Committee approved the Development Application (DA) for the Cairns Performing Arts Centre to be built on the site of the Civic Theatre. Eight submissions were received and considered in terms of the relevant planning and development frameworks and statutory requirements. Council has determined the DA complies with planning requirements and reflects the intentions of the draft Planning Scheme, which is due to be adopted in the near future. The application details plans for a performing arts complex comprising a 941-seat main theatre, 400-seat studio theatre, fly tower, dressing rooms, foyer, bar and amenities. The plan includes provision for 158 on-site car parking spaces. Read the minutes of the Planning and Economic Committee
