Alumni Spotlight: The Hoggins Family

Dale and Donna Hoggins have a strong and meaningful connection to the Edmonds School District that goes back to their courtship at Edmonds High School and continued for many years through teaching, administration and support work around the district. Their service to the greater Edmonds community continues long into retirement.

Written by Jack Eschrich, Alumni Committee Member
Dale and Donna Hoggins are a couple that have a long association with the Edmonds School District and the greater Edmonds community. Donna came to Alderwood Grade School in 1941 and attended grades 4 through 8. Dale arrived in Edmonds in 1946.

They entered EHS as freshmen in September 1946. They lived in the Martha Lake area and rode the same bus for 4 years. They even got on at the same bus stop. In those days, it would have been a long bus ride on country roads to go down to Edmonds. The students who lived east of 99 seldom went to the “Edmonds Bowl” except for high school activities. A bus ran through the county on Friday nights to take students to the big event – Friday night football at the high school.

Did you know? Middle School Students to Be Issued Computers

In January, the school board voted to issue all middle school students a district owned Chromebook starting with the 2015-16 school year. The Chromebooks, a type of netbook, or small portable computer, were successfully piloted at Alderwood Middle School students in 7th and 8th grades this school year. The rollout is intended to be the start of a longer-term plan to ultimately have a Chromebooks to student ratio of 1:1 in elementary through high school. Read more about the initiative here
