Prehealth

Newsletter

June 30, 2020

Welcome!

Dear Readers,

To better be able to serve you during the summer, we are switching to sending out these newsletters bi-weekly during the summer months. This is the last edition that will be sent out weekly. We will still be bringing you relevant information, but will do so a little less frequently. You can still schedule meetings with us.

Stay Connected!

We have set up 2 new Canvas modules for current students and alumni to be able to stay connected with one another during the application process, and to allow you to watch our pre-recorded group advising sessions.

Join our Health Professions School Applicants Networking Space to ask & answer questions about any part of the application process. We want this to be  a safe place for our Penn State applicants to have open and honest discussions about their candidacy. We will begin using this platform to send out important application and exam announcements.

Join our PreHealth Group Advising module to learn about preparing for a career in your chosen health profession, and gain access to the pre-health advising team.

AAMC Video Interview Tool for Admissions

AAMC VITA provides medical school admissions staff and applicants with the opportunity to gather the important information captured during the traditional in-person interview while adhering to social distancing guidance, prioritizing the health and safety of all and at no cost to you.

Timeline of next steps:

As of June 25:

  • For more information about AAMC VITA, including details on how the interviews will be conducted, other frequently asked questions, and virtual interviewing resources to assist you as you prepare, please visit aamc.org/VITA.
  • If you need to apply for accommodations, please submit your application as soon as possible. A link to the accommodations form is available on all AAMC VITA web pages (on the right-hand side).

Mid-July:

  • U.S. medical schools are still deciding how to approach virtual interviewing. We plan to begin listing participating schools on our website in mid-July. In addition, we plan to provide more resources to help applicants prepare for the AAMC VITA interview.

Early August:

  • U.S. medical schools will begin to send AAMC VITA invitations to applicants via email.

We will provide more information in July and August as AAMC VITA resources and school participation lists become available. Please contact askVITA@aamc.org with any questions.
