Profit from trees

Last month we mentioned that Sandy Pate, NRM facilatotor for the Perth Region NRM had presented at a conference on impacts of climate change on horse properties.

From the workshop it was clear that actions such as establishing perennial pastures and protecting and planting native trees were common actions land managers were undertaking to increase resilience against a changing climate.

Other benefits of trees include:

  • Ensuring the health of livestock through the provision of shade and shelter
  • Improving your property's value
  • Pasture growth through retention of soil moisture
  • Supporting biodiversity (i.e. native flora and fauna) and connecting habitats
  • Preventing soil erosion
