RUNNING TIP OF THE MONTH

As we are coming into the season many of you may be preparing for a half or full marathon. This is a good time to start fine tuning your nutrition for race day. It's a good idea to not only be thinking of your race day breakfast but also your dinner the night before. This meal is just as important as your breakfast for topping up the muscles' glycogen stores so that you're firing on all cylinders on race day. You want this to be a meal that you've had before, and that you know you digest and tolerate well. If you're going to be out of town and will be eating out it's a good plan to try and find something you know you can replicate (to some degree). Aim for some protein, vegetables, and carbs that you know you do well with. If you have quite a sensitive stomach it's best to stay away from too much fibre, and spicy or rich food. Probably not the best time to try out the new Indian takeaway on the corner!

As for breakfast you should be practising having the same breakfast that you'll have on race day before your long runs by now. Everyone has different tolerance levels as to how long they need to digest a meal properly before running, and it may take some trial and error to feel like you have this sorted. You'll also want to be practising with the fuel you'll be using on race day in your long runs.

We have plenty of options here in the studio if you want to try some different options. Remember the golden rule- never try anything new on race day!!

That's it for now team... Check out our tours below and let us know if you have any questions.
