    Australian Groundwater School - Melbourne

The Australian Groundwater School is vital for Australian professionals working with groundwater. Our flagship course, and the premier course of its type in Australasia, the Australian Groundwater School provides participants with a broad but rigorous introduction to groundwater. Introducing hydrogeology, assessment methods, modelling, managed aquifer recharge, management, governance and more, the course truly encompasses the fundamentals of groundwater.

Scientific, policy and management personnel who want to gain a solid grounding in groundwater should strongly consider attending this course.

Presenters include Dr. John Webb La Trobe Uni; Dr. Rebecca Nelson Melbourne Uni; Chris McAuley DELWP; Dr. Richard Evans Jacobs; Dr. Robin Amit Monash Uni; Greg Hoxley Jacobs; Dr. Michael Teubner Michael D Teubner Consulting Mike Dudding, Principal Hydrogeologist, mdGroundwaterBruce Gill, Senior Research Hydrogeologist, Dept. of Economic Development; Casey O’Farrell, Principal Hydrogeologist, Coffey; Bryan Chadwick, Technical Director - Environment, AECOM; Dr. Tamie Weaver, Technical Fellow and Partner, Environmental Resources Management; Steve Parsons, Senior Hydrogeologist, Jacobs.

Cross the ditch and save 20% - Solute & Reactive Transport Modelling & MAR, NZ

Australian delegates receive 20% discount to attend our New Zealand courses.

Solute & Reactive Transport Modelling: Coupled numerical models that simultaneously account for the quantification of subsurface fluid flow and biogeochemical processes are  important tools for interpreting groundwater quality data and processes relevant to natural and contaminated aquifer systems. These models help provide insights into the past and present behaviour of a wide range of groundwater constituents (incl. organic/ inorganic pollutants) and predict future groundwater quality evolution under multiple water quality management scenarios.

Managed Aquifer Recharge: The course will impart knowledge to assist regulators and practitioners facilitate a smooth and efficient uptake of MAR for producing urban and peri-urban water supplies. At the end of the course participants will be aware of the traps, benefits and costs in planning, design, approval and operation of Groundwater Replenishment Schemes for sustainable water supplies.

Dr. Rebecca Nelson is the 2016 NCGRT / IAH Distinguished Lecturer

We are please to have Dr. Rebecca Nelson as the 2016 NCGRT / IAH Distinguished Lecturer. Dr. Nelson will tour every state and territory in Australia to deliver her lecture entitled: Regulating the cumulative impacts of groundwater withdrawals: Australia and further afield.

Abstract: The regulation of groundwater extraction has shifted dramatically through an intense era of intense water reforms spanning three decades. A key outstanding issue is controlling withdrawals with an eye to their cumulative impacts on groundwater resources and dependent systems. Such control is complicated not just by the incremental additive effects of many small withdrawals, but also by interactive and synergistic effects. This complexity is intensified further by data paucity, potentially significant time lags, and simultaneous background changes to natural systems, such as those caused by climate change.
