Internationally acclaimed curator Stephanie Rosenthal, Artistic Director of the 20th Biennale of Sydney (2016), will arrive in Sydney in early September and be based here until next year’s Biennale. CEO of the Biennale of Sydney, Ben Strout
said, 'We are thrilled that Stephanie’s arrival in Sydney will coincide with the six month countdown to next year’s milestone event.' 'Preparations for the 20th Biennale, which opens in mid-March 2016, are well underway and there is building excitement about the vision Stephanie is refining in collaboration with the 13 international curatorial Attachés we announced in June.' 'The majority of participating artists are now confirmed and we are advancing planning with our venue partners. We are also delighted to be working in several new locations across Sydney.' BOARD UPDATE As final preparations for the artistic elements of the Biennale commence, updates to the Biennale of Sydney Board have been confirmed. Phillip Keir recently advised the Board of his decision to step down as Chair and a Director due to his extensive international travel commitments. The Board subsequently appointed Directors Kate Mills
and Julian Knights as Chair and Deputy Chair respectively. On behalf of the Board, Ms Mills thanks Mr Keir for his dedication and contribution as Chair and a Director over eight years. 'Phillip stepped up and led the Biennale through a period of significant change and renewal. We greatly appreciate the contribution he has made as a Director and Chair, and appreciate the great contribution that the Keir Foundation made in supporting commissions by artists such as Kader Attia, Fiona Hall, Nina Canell and Ulla von Brandenburg.'
