Notes from the Office

The monthly envelope contains your parent/teacher conference form. Please make note of when you are scheduled. Your child(ren)’s report card(s) will be given to you at the conference.

The Family Directory will be distributed in the family envelope, one copy per family. Please keep your copy in a safe place.

Parent Lunch and Recess Reminders
Several families have not turned in their Parent Lunch Form for this year. Note that the parent lunch schedule includes some parents who have not indicated their preference. Please make every effort to come in to help, and let the office know what works best for you.

If you are assigned outside recess duty, please remember the following:

“All adults on duty outside should wear a safety vest. Parents should be positioned in separate play areas- one parent at the North end, one parent near the office, and one parent in the middle section. Limit cell phone use to emergency calls.”

Help for hurricane victims

Sacred Heart School children accepted the invitation of The National Catholic Education Association's STUDENT TO STUDENT Campaign to assist hurricane victims in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico.  Outright donations plus 100% of the sales of Mrs. Maola's cookies yielded $1,252.  Thank you for your generosity!

Ice skating save the date

Love Walk for the poor

Catholic Charities and EECM join together asking for donations and partaking in Mass and the walk from Sacred Heart to EECM on Sunday, November 12 at 2:00 p.m. Families are encouraged to attend this wonderful event. Youth volunteers are needed to act as ambassadors to assist visitors and hand out programs. Cross Country 2017 wrap up

The Sacred Heart Cross Country team had a breakout 2017 season!  For the first time, the team welcomed 2nd and 3rd graders to join the new Novice running program.  Coaches Amy Schaarsmith and Dani Jo Cessna coached the Novice program and did a great job of mixing in fun while also building endurance.  Because of all the hard work at practice, Sacred Heart Novice runners competed well, earning a plethora of team trophies and individual medals over the course of the season.

In addition to the Novice runners, the team attracted many new runners in grades 4 - 8 as well.  This year the team had a total of 67 runners participating, an 80% increase over last season!  Sacred Heart now has one of the largest youth running programs in the Diocese.

And what did the team do with all of those runners?  Win!  Over the course of the season, Sacred Heart earned a case full of team trophies and countless individual medals.  Our Novice Girls, Varsity Girls, and Varsity Boys earned a team trophy in every regular season meet this season.

While the winning season was impressive, coaches Trish Murphy, Dave Schaarsmith, Keith Woodward, and Lee Haller were most impressed with the team spirit and camaraderie displayed by the runners.  Sacred Heart team members could regularly be seen cheering on their teammates, in some cases running along side of them to provide encouragement.  As a result, the cross country program was a fun experience for runners of all ages and skill levels.

A special congratulations to our graduating 8th graders.  Your running talent and great team spirit will be missed next season.  Thank you to all of the runners and their parents for making 2017 a season to remember!

Volleyball update

What a great season it has been for the girls JV and Varsity volleyball teams!  Both teams have made it to the playoffs, with the JV team earning a first round bye in the playoffs.  The Varsity has advanced to round two of the playoffs, winning the first round of playoffs this past weekend. Stayed tuned for updates! Go Crusaders!

Christmas basketball tournament

The Athletic Association's biggest fundraiser is the Christmas Tournament held yearly from December 26th through December 30th. We host 32 teams from around the Dioceses and raise money to benefit all sports programs.

This year, we are looking for volunteers to help coordinate the Christmas Tournament. We still need people to help with trophies, t-shirts, and to be present in the gym during this week. Please be on the lookout for more information soon.

Ski Club

The Sacred Heart Ski Club is gearing up for its 3rd season!  Ski club is offered to children in grades 6-8.  Ski trips will be planned to Hidden Valley Ski Resort.  The trips will take place after the new year. If you would like more details please contact Amy Volpe at jaisvolpe@gmail.com.  Additional details will be sent out in Option C and via the school envelope.

November food: Instant Mashed Potatoes

In conjunction with Sacred Heart Parish, the school will collect instant mashed potatoes to be contributed to the food bank run by the East End Cooperative Ministry.

Each month, the Christian Leadership Team members encourage all of us to contribute a different featured food to share with our neighbors in need. Thank you for your support.
