Spring is here!

We just returned from our annual Charleston Visual Artistry workshops (2). It's a great way to start the year! We had a chance to get out to catch some outstanding jazz. It was nice to reconnect to jazz artists again.

Infrared and long exposures were big hits this year and will remain a focus in all of our workshops. Unusual, fun, and easy mediums to learn and a whole new way to see and re-interpret your world.

The lead image was a 2 minute exposure using the
Singh Ray 10 stop Mor-Slo filter

(discount code sweet10), high key processing in PS.

The image above is of the amazing Angel Oak in Charleston made during our Digital Edge workshop. This image is a color/ infrared blend, processed using PS layers and contrast adjustments, luminosity masks, and Topaz Impression.

tip of the month

Tony Sweet is a professional photographer, author, workshop leader and software trainer. He and Susan Milestone conduct photography workshops throughout the US, Canada, Iceland, and Cuba. Tony is a Nikon Legend Behind the Lens.

I've finally found a bag and tripod that I'm totally satisfied with, well, at least for the time being:

Working on the coast in wet and muddy areas, I've never really liked setting my bag down, but it was unavoidable unless I took one camera and one lens. The Mindshift Rotation180 solved that problem. The modular waist bag portion rotates to the front so that I can change lenses and even bodies without setting the bag down. Go here: http://bit.ly/1S6BR3c

New favorite tripod: Induro GIT404XL. Light and tall wilth big grips to adjust the legs. Easy to clean and affordable.

I find this combination light, mobil, and easy to use in all conditions, especially working on wet, muddy, snowy, and other hostile conditions.
