We want to support you in improving the health and wellbeing of young people through physical activity, sport and PE.In this newsletter we have free physical activity resources, funding information and virtual school games opportunites available to you.We would also like to introduce we can move; a social movement to get everybody in Gloucestershire active. This movement is coordinated by Active Gloucestershire and together we are the Gloucestershire team behind: The Daily Mile, School Games, Open School Facilities, Active Lives Survey, Beat the Street and more.![]() We deliver these programmes and more ![]() ![]() ![]() Free and easy ways to help young people keep active The advice on how much we can go out for exercise may have changed but with lockdown still in place, we believe we need to keep encouraging young people to stay active. Physical activity will have a positive impact on their physical and mental wellbeing. Recent Sport England research shows that ony 14% of young people are achieving the recommended physical actvity levels. To help in this time, we would like to share the Sport England campaign, Join the movement which offers lots of ideas and links to free resources that can support your school community. For those young people who need access to health and wellbeing support, Gloucestershire Healthy Living and Learning have a range of resources and guidance as do the NSPCC. We can move also offers a range of resources to support communities and families in staying active. ![]() Tweedy’s Gloucestershire School Games Challenge School Games Organisers were disappointed to have to postpone the remaining events for this year, but Tweedy the clown provided them with a funny and creative way to help children stay active at home. Tweedy is setting a weekly challenge that encourages children, of all ages, to have a go. These are fun activites that can be done with no special equipment, in small spaces and can be adapted as needed. Please share them with your school community and let your School Games Organiser know how your school is getting on. Watch out for exciting news about the Gloucestershire virtual school games programme after half-term. ![]() ![]() PE and Sport Premium funding We work with Gloucestershire Healthy Living and Learning (GHLL) and local school sport and physical activity networks to support your school in the use of PE and Sport Premium funding. The Department for Education (DfE) are aware of the impact of school closures and understand that your plans for allocated expenditure is likely to have changed in response to COVID-19. The DfE are due to publish FAQs for schools and we will send these to you as soon as we have them, in addition to an update on Primary and Sport Premium funding for 2020/21. Get in touch if you have questions or concerns. ![]() Share your school's story How is your school dealing with lockdown in supporting key workers' children and engaging those at home? Have you set them any physical activity challenges? Perhaps a dance routine, a keepy-uppy challenge, a skipping challenge or something truly original. We would love to hear from you. We have received some good news of those working with children and how they are adapting to provide support. People like Tim Knibbs, a PE specialist working with primary schools in the Gloucester city area. He has not been able to physically support schools but he has been creating activities to inspire children and their families while they are at home. You can see these here. Tim says “I would encourage you to try something new.
