Reflection

Lead me this day, Lord,
to live fully in the present moment
and enjoy all that is good around me.
May all that is life-giving remind me of your life and love
that surround me now.

Greg's Message

Hello Parents and Friends of St. Anne’s
Congratulations to our Foundation students who are celebrating their 100th day of schooling today. All of these students have made amazing gains in their learning and overall development, and we are very fortunate to have them here at St. Anne’s.

Back Court
In relation to our dinner dance focus - the resurfacing of the back court - the end is nigh! Grassports have begun their work, and it is anticipated that the court will be completed by the end of this week.

Enrolments
We will be starting to organise class structures shortly. It would be appreciated if parents could advise me if their child will not be attending St. Anne’s next year (current Foundation to Year 5 students.)

School closure days
Please note that there will be no school for students on Monday 26 August and Tuesday 27 August. On these two days staff will be undertaking professional learning on Social and Emotional Learning and First Aid.

World Scout Day
World Scout Day is being held this year on Thursday 1 August. At St. Anne’s we have a number of children involved in Scouts. These scouts are welcome to wear their scout uniform to school on August 1.

Grandparents Day
Last Friday we celebrated our annual Grandparents Day. This was held on the feast day of St. Anne and St. Joachim (Jesus’ grandparents). The day was a resounding success. The grandparents and special friends enjoyed the classrooms and library visit, the beautiful mass and magnificent morning tea. Many thanks to the grandparents who attended and bought many valuable books for our library, and to the wonderful parents who provided food, set up tables and served. Special thanks to Lisa Burns for her coordination of the morning tea.

Hooptime
All of our year 3 and 4 students will be involved in Hooptime (basketball) at Dandenong on Wednesday 7th August. Some of our year 6 students will be coaching the teams. Please be advised that the bus will be leaving at 8:30am on this day.

Staffing
Sarah Parker has just begun two weeks long service leave. On Monday-Wednesdays during this time, Gail Swainger will be teaching 5/6PM. Next week Josh Cassell will be taking one week of long service leave. Lynette Brugliera will be teaching 1/2C during this time.

Religious Education

Thank you to all the parents and year 6 students who attended last night’s Faith Education evening with our guest presenter Maria Forde.
Maria was able to explain simply to the children the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and give examples in our everyday life how we can and should use them.
Her presentation was thought provoking for both adult and child.
Maria is a teacher, liturgist, chaplain and singer songwriter. Maria shared her reflections on the sacrament of confirmation whilst also inviting  parents and children to enter into conversation. Prayer, ritual and music were part of our special evening.

The Confirmation Reflection Day is coming up on the 9th August. It is an important day for our year 6 Confirmation candidates and the children who are not making their confirmation are invited to participate in this day too.
They will be able to wear casual clothes and their morning tea will be provided for them. Children will need to supply their own lunch and drink.
This day is a reflective day for the children and of their formal preparation for this special sacrament. It is an expectation that it be attended by all of the year 6 children-but in particular, the year 6 confirmation candidates.

Monsignor Tony Ireland will be visiting the candidates on the 14th August at 2pm to have a chat with them about the sacrament, their chosen saint and about a few formalities of the ceremony.

First Friday Mass
This Friday at 10am our Year 5/6 students will be attending the first Friday of the month mass. Families are welcome to join us.

Dates for your diaries:

  • The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated at St Anne’s on Saturday 17th August at 3.00 pm.
  • Confirmation Reflection Day Friday 9th August

Student Wellbeing

St John Ambulance Victoria will visit our school again this Thursday to deliver their free First Aid in Schools Program to our students. The program ran last year and was very well received by students and staff. St John's presenters take an innovative approach to ensure all First Aid lessons are a fun and interactive experience for students of all learning capabilities. The trained St John presenters will lead students through tailored sessions on the importance of First Aid and what to do in the event of a medical emergency. Our junior students learn about how to identify when there is an emergency, keeping themselves safe, and how to call for an ambulance. Senior students learn about delivering CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and the things they can do to assist in an emergency. First Aid in Schools is an important community initiative which has saved lives, so we are happy to welcome the presenters back to St Anne's this week.
