REPRESENTATION

Ontario Governement Fall Economic
Statement Re-cap

OVERVIEW

Earlier today, the Ontario Government released its 2019 Fall Economic Statement, “A Plan to Build Ontario Together”. Overall, the government took some positive steps to address business competitiveness, especially for SMEs. Solutions to the labour shortages crisis were also put forward. However more is needed to restore the province's competitiveness.

KEY COMMITMENTS

  • Developing and implementing of an Ontario Small Business Success Strategy
  • Establishing Premier’s Advisory Council on Competitiveness consisting of business leaders
  • Cutting small business tax rate from 3.5 to 3.2 per cent starting January 1, 2020

  • Establishing a new STEM education strategy.

  • Streamlining delivery ministry-led delivery model to address challenges in how skilled trades are regulated

  • Streamlining requirements of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program and New Ontario Immigration Pilot

NEXT STEPS

CME will be advocating for decisive government action to reduce electricity costs, reform Ontario’s property tax system and to introduce additional business support measures in order to ensure scale-up, investment, improved productivity and new growth in the sector.
