HomeworkIn the realm of education around the world, there are varying philosophies on the importance and frequency of homework. Some schools and cultures consider homework as a key component to a student's success and spend hours on homework after school. Other cultures and schools believe especially younger children should have no homework; they need to be playing after school. Quality Schools International believes in a balanced approach to homework as well as giving their professional classroom teachers room for their own philosophy. Our school has homework guidelines, included below. It is left up to each teacher to interoperate these guidelines and assign homework that they feel is appropriate to the learning environment and experience of their classroom. One of the best thing's students can do for homework is read: read with a parent, read by themselves, and read for enjoyment. Reading every day gets children into a routine and a habit that will benefit them for a lifetime! Engineering in the 6-year-old class! The 6 YO class has been learning about Engineering by thinking of and designing a model that will hypothetically solve a problem, then testing that model and redesigning it if it does not work as planned. Students built houses of cardboard with the intention of making houses which would withstand the “wind” from a hair dryer or blower. Some redesigns were found necessary after the original designs failed to stand against the “wind.” The favorite material used in redesigns? More tape! Student Led ConferencesFriday, April 26Student-led conferences are a growing trend in education around the world. These conferences will be student-led, student-centered, and student- driven. They are beneficial in creating a unique, informative, and positive dialogue between parents and children about their education. It is also a great opportunity for students to showcase their accomplishments and reflect on their strengths, weaknesses and future goals. Several weeks before conferences students will be given time in class to prepare. Teachers will also spend time with students coaching them in preparation for the conference; collecting and deciding on artifacts to showcase, reflecting on their goals, strengths, and weakness and how to communicate that to their parents. In the upcoming weeks, more information will follow to schedule appointments. We look forward to seeing you all then! Here is a short video produced by a school in Chicago about Student Led Conferences. Lunch Menu: March 11 - 15All meals come with fresh vegetables, seasonal fruit, bread, and compote/kissel. Monday:
