Dean Palma updates:  Return to State plans

"When President Barron announced on June 15 that students, faculty, and staff will be returning to campus in phases for Fall 2020, that was the culmination of weeks and weeks of contingency planning by a large team consisting of faculty, staff and administrators.   While it was important to share with our community in mid-June that we are returning to campus in the fall, the pace of the planning and scope of those involved has only increased since June 15."

Educational Equity matching scholarship program

"Through the program, donors can double or triple their support for scholarships for students whose gender, race, ethnic, cultural, and/or national background contribute to the diversity of the student body and, for undergraduate scholarships, who have a demonstrated financial need for funds to meet their necessary college expenses." Read more on how to contribute.

Chemistry graduate students plan to create change in support of BLM

Chem GSA recently released an email emphasizing the importance of actively demonstrating support for BLM, especially within STEM. The letter outlines both broad and internal initiatives that the student organization intends to act on. Read more on the initiatives and efforts.

Eberly student overcomes pandemic obstacle with the help of an alum

It’s easy to forget that the college experience and connection goes well beyond receiving a degree, and Penn State might just be the best example of this. With the University ranking first in College Magazine’s 2020 list of “Top 10 Schools with the Friendliest Alumni,” Penn State’s alumni prove time and again their dedication to helping students succeed. Read about how one alum was able to help a student.

Global relationships aid Penn State faculty disease expert on COVID-19
Ferrari co-chairs the Public Health and Science Assessment task group responsible for advising senior University leadership as they continue to guide Penn State’s strategic response to the pandemic. Several times a week, Ferrari is studying and tracking current scientific evidence and data, not just in the United States, but from around the globe, as well.

 
 
Lasers could speed up coronavirus diagnostics
 

Research team to study food resilience in the face of catastrophic global events
With the four-year grant from Open Philanthropy, the team will expand upon the findings; develop, test and optimize strategies for emergency food resilience; and produce recommendations for prudent planning for post-catastrophic food resilience.

 
 

Adult students recognized for leadership in life, as well as the classroom
Perseverance and service to others moved two Penn State adult learners through several life obstacles toward their goals to achieve a bright future for not only themselves, but for those in their care. 

 
 

PSETI Center researcher Jason Wright awarded NASA grant to look for signatures of alien technology
This marks the first time NASA has awarded an external grant to look for “technosignatures” other than radio signals. The grant is also the first to support work at the new Penn State Extraterrestrial Intelligence Center.
