TV news bulletin

Catch all the latest Council news on Gladstone Regional Council's TV news bulletin. The October bulletin was aired on Channel Seven on October 28. The bulletin is aired on the last Monday of each month between Seven's local news and weather segments. Residents can also watch the bulletin via the Council TV webpage.

Win an iPad mini by recycling eWaste

Gladstone Region residents can win an iPad mini by depositing their eWaste material at participating Council Waste Transfer Stations during National Recycling Week (November 11-17). Examples of eWaste are televisions, computers, computer-related components and accessories, printers and scanners. Read more…

Co-author to visit two regional libraries

Cook book, 4 Ingredients' Kim McCosker will visit Gladstone and Calliope libraries on December 9. Mark the date on your calendar to hear Kim talk about the 4 Ingredients story and 4 Ingredients Wellness Series. More details will be printed in upcoming eConnect Newsletters.

Residents can register for a free Early Warning Network Alert Service to receive warnings via SMS to mobiles, email, voicemail to landlines and web alerts related to their registered locations. The initiative provides advanced warning of adverse weather or potential threats. Register via Council's website.

Splash Zone to officially open on November 17

Splash Zone at the Gladstone Aquatic Centre in Tank Street will open on November 17.

The grand opening will be held from 10am to 2pm with lots of activities for children and families. Splash Zone will be officially opened by Mayor Gail Sellers at 11am.

The water park will include a range of interactive play equipment for youngsters. Read more…

SUNfest 2014 youth holiday program available to view

The SUNfest 2014 youth holiday program has been released with plenty of activities for students aged 10 to 17.

Copies of the program are available at all Council administration centres, Rural Transaction Centres, the Gladstone Art Gallery & Museum, selected facilities and via Council's website.

Bridge remedial works may cause traffic disruptions

Stage one remedial works have started on Auckland Creek Bridge, Blain Drive, Gladstone with motorists advised of possible traffic disruptions while works occur. Pedestrian access on the bridge will be limited with motorists advised to anticipate delays or plan their travel via alternative routes. Read more...

Youth survey offers an iPad mini prize for participation

Council is conducting a Youth Survey to gain feedback from youth (12 to 24 year olds) who live work or study in the Gladstone Region.

The information gained from this survey will help Council develop long-term strategies that support youth and address identified issues youth may be encountering.

Youth who complete this survey will automatically go into a draw to win an iPad mini.

Meeting dates

Upcoming Council general meeting dates are November 19 and December 3. Residents are welcome to attend from 9am at 101 Goondoon Street, Gladstone.

Water meter readings across the region

Is your water meter accessible or is it hidden by building materials or vehicles? Council is encouraging residents to ensure water meters are accessible as Council will commence reading all water meters from Monday, November 18 until the end of December 2013. To assist the meter readers, residents are asked to keep any unrestrained dogs under control and gates closed. If you cannot locate your meter please contact Council's Rates Section on 4976 6999.

Nigel makes the most of his chance to work

Parks Labourer Nigel Woodleigh is proof positive that sometimes all a person needs is a chance. Mr Woodleigh, 20, has commenced duties with Council after completing the six-month Keys to Careers program for unemployed indigenous residents. Mr Woodleigh, whose enthusiasm and work ethic during his work experience placement with Council's Parks team were instrumental in securing his employment, said he was pleased to be working and establishing a career.

Tree Decorating fun

The Boyne Tannum Community Centre will host its annual children's Tree Decorating Extravaganza on Wednesday, December 4. Venue will be the Port Curtis Room from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. Activities include Christmas tree decorating, a sing-a-long, Santa visit and afternoon tea. Enquiries phone the Boyne Tannum Community Centre on 4971 9700.
