Newsletter August 2019 HEADLINESScottish Government Small Grants Programme 2020 OpensThe Scottish Government’s 2020 Small Grants Programme is now open for applications. An information day will be held in Edinburgh on 11 September. The closing date is 8 November. The programme is open to Scotland-based organisations with an annual expenditure of less than £250,000. This is the final year of a pilot period and a review of the programme will be undertaken this autumn. For that reason, there will be no project grants. All grants are for one year only, for capacity building or for feasibility work, up to a new maximum level of £15,000. What does a Boris Premiership mean for international development?Well, to start with it means a new Secretary of State for International Development. Alok Sharma, MP for Reading West, replaces Rory Stewart MP. The Alliance wrote to him at the end of July, welcoming him to the role and inviting him to meet with our members. It is well known that the new Prime Minister has not been the Department for International Development's biggest supporter, calling for its closure as a separate Whitehall department earlier this year. Now in the driving seat, will Boris Johnson push for drastic changes? All Speakers, contributors and sessions now confirmed for 2019 Alliance Annual ConferenceCheck out the programme here for details, including descriptions of all breakout sessions. To get us started, here are three great blogs from our friends at ActionAid, Christian Aid and Trupact. Lila will also be joining our Annual Conference as a panelist at the session entitled 'Gender in the context of SDG8'. Should we continue with gender mainstreaming?Lara Plang, Managing Partner at Trupact, writes about why she thinks evaluation of gender mainstreaming should be done differently to ensure it doesn't get undermined. Lara will also be joining our Annual Conference as a contributor to the session on 'Approaches to tackling violence against women and girls' . Untangling Intersectionality: Putting Inequalities Front and CentreDr. Marianna Leite, Global Lead – Gender and Inequality at Christian Aid, explains how an intersectional approach to gender helps us challenge our assumptions.
