Sisters Show the Way in Africa
Economic empowerment of women has long been a core focus at Miller Center. International Women's Day 2019, the end of a three-day social entrepreneurship workshop with Sisters from 11 congregations to launch the Sisters Blended Value Project of ACWECA (Association of Consecrated Women in East and Central Africa), and an immersion trip visiting alumni social enterprises of our Global Social Benefit Institute (GSBI®) accelerator programs was a serendipitous convergence. To learn more about the partnership with ACWECA, read Thane's reflection on his two weeks in Kenya here → Introducing Founders from the Women's Economic Empowerment Affinity Group
In light of International Women's Day, Hira wrote a blog post highlighting the stories of three female founders of our newly introduced women's economic empowerment (WEE) affinity group for women-led social enterprises in our 2019 Global Social Benefit Institute (GSBI®) programs. The existence of this affinity group aligns with recent research by UN Women and UNDP which indicates that advancing gender equality accelerates progress to achieving the 2030 Agenda. To learn more about the female founders of our 2019 GSBI cohort, read Hira's blog.→ Who are the Miller Center GSBI Mentors? Our mentors are often referred to as the “secret sauce” of the GSBI programs. These executive-level professionals volunteer their time, expertise, and diverse professional experience to our GSBI cohorts every year. In collaboration with our structured curriculum, the mentors guide each social entrepreneur that comes through our program through business/impact model refinement, scalability, growth, financing and impact readiness. Read more about what the mentors do, who they are, and how you could be a part of this movement in Cassandra and Lynne's blog post here →.
