HOUSTON (Oct 9, 2013) – Previously held in New Orleans (2009), Toronto (2010), Atlanta (2011) and Miami (2012), Houston is poised as host city of the 5th Annual National Technology Conference & Career Expo on Friday and Saturday, October 25-26, 2013, at the Marriott West Loop by the Galleria, 1750 W. Loop S. Freeway, Houston, TX 77027.

The National Black Information Technology Leadership Organization (NBITLO) has themed its conference, “Beyond STEM: Building Bridges for the Next Generation of Black Technologists, Engineers, Scientists & Innovators.” Annually, the conference attracts thought leaders from across the country for an intensive two days of workshops and collaboration, a research and technology symposium, high-tech vendor and recruitment fair, certification training and networking.

NBITLO is a membership-based organization designed to support the goals of black technology leaders by equipping them with the resources and professional development needed to populate the global workforce with a diverse and highly qualified group of IT leaders who will lead with vision, innovation, tech savvy and keen technology leadership skills.

“We selected Houston as the conference host city because the city is in forefront of technology innovation and development in the nation,” said NBITLO Founder Andrew West.

“With organizations like NASA and HP, and incubators such as the Houston Technology Center and Surge, Houston is a smart choice to nurture African American technology growth.”

“Additionally, we look to universities such as Texas Southern, Prairie View and the University of Houston as STEM learning pipelines to Houston IT careers.”

The 5th Annual National Technology Conference & Career Expo will include symposium subjects such as:

    • Moving Beyond Talk: Using our professional talents and tools to advance careers, and social, economic and political interests;

    • Women and Technology: Dispelling gender myths and empowering women to excel;

    • Bridging the Gap: Raising parental awareness in STEM education and equipping our youth to succeed;

    • The Black Technology Leadership Dilemma: Transitioning from discussion to action; and

    • Branding You: Positioning ourselves for the interview, the promotion and beyond. Navigating the road map of social media, resume and professional brand.

“Our unique conference format enables host city technology practitioners and professionals a platform to tell their story and share successes in a compelling networking and interactive symposium setting,” said West. “We look forward to receiving a host of speaker proposals from Houston and across the nation through October 15, 2013.”
