Reminder: December Payroll cut-off date (Mon 11 Dec)
The payroll cut-off date is Monday 11 December.
If you are completing a Claim Form/Casual Claim Form/Timesheet/Overtime Claim or are responsible for authorising such claims please ensure you have submitted them to Payroll no later than 12:00 on Monday 11 December. Any claims received after this will be processed and paid in January 2018.
Pay day in December will be Friday 29 December.

Christmas toy appeal (final donations)
The final day to donate toys to Mike Hannan's Christmas Toy Appeal is Thursday 14 December.
All toys should be unwrapped and new, and should be taken to the donation station in the School of Life Sciences Stores (Dow Street).

Wi-Fi everywhere, even outside
IT thought it was time they gave you an update on the status of the Network Refresh Project.

31 / 44 buildings on City and Kirkcaldy campuses fully migrated.

10 buildings cabled but not yet migrated.

4 buildings scheduled to be migrated.

3 buildings being actively cabled.

Dental Hospital delay: Cabling work has re-started (stalled due to building issues).

Ninewells campus: Activity always intended to run behind other campuses because setup is more complex. Cabling is delayed (due to building issue which is being investigated). Discussions underway around the possibility of carrying out a partial, wired only migration.

Tackling period poverty
Students and staff have made 10,000 sanitary products freely available to raise awareness of the issue of period poverty.
The launch, which took place last Friday, was supported by Monica Lennon MSP, who is currently progressing a Member's Bill which seeks to end period poverty in Scotland.
Student Services and DUSA combined their efforts to provide the free items ahead of the Scottish Government commitment to supply free sanitary products across schools, colleges and universities next year.
The new initiative was created following DUSA’s removal of the tampon tax at shops across University campuses in January 2016.

Working to secure India's water future
Collaborative research between Scotland and India has begun on a major water management project in India, with researchers from the University exploring the impact of increasing population and rapid economic development on water resources.
We are one of six UK-based partners working with Indian organisations to understand trends in water use and management in order to help protect the availability of water in the region.

The Way We Were: the University on Film (Thu 7 Dec)
Don’t miss this opportunity to marvel at bygone fashions, spot familiar (albeit younger) faces, view the campus as it once was and learn something about the history of the University. Spanning the 1930s to the 1990s, highlights include a 1930s trip to Rasaay, student protests, the changing campus and building the Tower, the installation of the Queen Mother as Chancellor, Le Comber explaining Liquid Crystal Display and Sir Philip Cohen on Life Sciences in the early 1990s, and Stephen Fry’s hilarious rectorial address.

Candlelit Carol Service (Sun 10 Dec)
The University's candlelit carol service is an annual fixture on Dundee's festive calendar. Make sure you arrive early to find a seat as the cathedral is always packed! It's a magical way to bring the Christmas spirit alive.
