Dr Prue Howson has joined the Great Southern Specialist Centre Nephrologist Dr Prue Howsonjoins GSSCThe Great Southern Specialist Centre is widening their specialist services offering by bringing Nephrologist Dr Prue Howson on board. Dr Howson provides care in all aspects of chronic kidney disease management including dialysis, chronic transplant care, conservative renal care and other renal-specific issues of hypertension and electrolyte disturbances. Born in Albany, she has strong family ties to the region, with both her grandparents and parents having grown up there, and ultimately her own plan is to move back to the area to raise her family. Having completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at UWA, Dr Howson then completed Physician training with the Royal College of Physicians in her specialty of Nephrology and is weeks away from dual training in General Medicine with a Clinical Diploma of Palliative Care. Dr Howson said while diabetic kidney disease was one of the most common causes of chronic kidney disease and where most of her work lies, she believes the area where she can see providing the most assistance in the region will be with advice and support for GPs in more advanced kidney disease where medications become more complex. “I enjoy working in a complex area of medicine where you have great continuity of care and ability to build relationships with patients over time,” Dr Howson said. “What I find most satisfying about my work is meeting people from all walks of life and being able to help manage what can be a very silent condition, and preventing future issues for patients.” Dr Howson will be offering specialist visiting services every six weeks at the Great Southern Specialist Centre. For all appointment enquiries please contact the administration team at the Great Southern Specialist Centre on phone 9841 3500, email or make a general inquiry through our website at www.gsspecialistcentre.com. |
