Take a virtual tour of campus

The latest marketing tool from External Relations, to support both increased applications and conversion, is a virtual tour of the campus - and it's just gone live. This includes around 60 360-degree photographs of various parts of the campus, both internal and external. These have focused initially on key student facilities (DUSA, library, accommodation and ISE) as well as some academic facilities.

The virtual tour is already being used for conversion and will also be used as part the Clearing campaign over the next few weeks.  Relevant 360-degree photographs are being embedded on particular course pages, particularly where there is a specific interest in the facilities (e.g. DJCAD studios, Dentistry phantom heads, Life Sciences labs, etc).

External Relations intend to increase the range of these photographs over the next few months – if there is a particular area within your School that would benefit from this treatment, please contact your School marketing manager.

Take the tour.

The University doctor is retiring

As well as offering clinical consultations to students and staff, he has worked tirelessly behind the scenes as Medical Adviser to the University, acting as an important liaison in medical and related policy issues.

As a mark of appreciation and thanks for such lengthy and loyal service, a collection has been organised. If you wish to contribute, please contact Norma Smith. The Health Service is located in the Support Hub, OTI Building.

University alumnus raises cash for Children in Need

University alumnus Bryan Coutts met his wife, Aleksandra, during their studies at Dundee. Bryan graduated with a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) in 1997 and Aleks, firstly with a Bachelor of Medical Science in Medical Psychology in 1997 then with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2000. Their story was included in our ‘Love is in the Air’ feature in the 2016 edition of The Bridge, which launched during Graduation week.

We were delighted to invite Bryan and Aleksandra to Graduation Lunch to enjoy all the celebrations but, unfortunately, they were unable to attend as Bryan was involved in a fundraising walk for Children in Need.

Bryan walked 22 miles along the Clyde/Forth canal from Linlithgow to Edinburgh as part of a range of activities across the Commercial Banking Finance department of Lloyds Bank. The day's activities raised £3500 which was matched by Lloyds Bank, meaning Children in Need received a fantastic £7000 donation for Bryan's efforts - a good excuse for missing the graduation lunch date!

Read Bryan and Aleks’ story in The Bridge.

Have you taken a selfie with Oor Wullie/Dr Manhattan? Share them with us and we'll feature them in a Facebook album later this month!

Medical students survey

A group of medical students is interested in learning about how students deal with experiences related to patient death, in an effort to develop recommendations about how students can be supported through this in their early clinical experiences.

If you are a Year 4 or a Year 5 medical student at the University, they are seeking your participation and would be grateful if you would complete a brief, anonymous online questionnaire

PhD student competition - win $2500 cash

The ninth annual Science/AAAS Dance Your PhD contest is open! The magazine Science wants to know what your PhD research is (or was) about - but forget the PowerPoint slideshow. They don't even want you to talk... they want to see you dance!

Get together with your friends and labmates and make a dance video. It can be any style, from ballet and breakdancing to your own highly abstract interpretive dance. The final product should be not only fun to watch but helpful for others to gain an understanding of your scientific research. If you can pull that off, you can win a portion of the $2500 cash prize.

The deadline for submissions is 30 September. To enter the contest, and to see examples of past winners for inspiration, visit the contest homepage.
