But, you know what they say, “time flies when you’re having fun” and for the past two years it’s been a blast finally having an excuse not to go out. Thanks to our government’s “stay at home order,” I’ve been tasked by the leaders of our great nation to stay curled up under my weighted blanket and binge television shows… or at least that’s how I translated the message from Fauci. After spending my prime single years using television shows as a coping mechanism during the pandemic, I am excited to bring together the women behind some of my favorite series for this year’s Power Women Summit, streaming virtually December 7-9. Hear from showrunners Sierra Teller Ornelas (“Rutherford Falls”), Sarah Burgess (“Impeachment: American Crime Story”), Karin Gist (“Our Kind of People”), Stacy Rukeyser (“Sex/Life”) and Ali Schouten (“iCarly”) who will address what it takes to oversee a successful television production Writers Amy Aniobi (“Insecure”), Rebecca Sonnenshine (“The Boys”), Gloria Calderón Kellett (“With Love”), Jaclyn Moore (“Dear White People”) and Sara Goodman (“I Know What You Did Last Summer”) will also take audiences “Inside the Writers Room” at the event. Jessica Simpson Celebrates 4 Years Sober with Candid Photo Showing 'Unrecognizable Version of Myself' (@JessicaSimpson)
Jessica Simpson is celebrating a big milestone. The singer and entrepreneur on Monday shared a throwback photo of herself on Instagram to mark four years of being sober. "This person in the early morning of Nov 1, 2017 is an unrecognizable version of myself. I had so much self discovery to unlock and explore. I knew in this very moment I would allow myself to take back my light, show victory over my internal battle of self respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity," she wrote. "Personally, to do this I needed to stop drinking alcohol because it kept my mind and heart circling in the same direction and quite honestly I was exhausted." Simpson, who last year inked a lucrative multimedia deal with Amazon Studios, added that she has come to a place where she is "wildly honest and comfortably open." "There is so much stigma around the word alcoholism or the label of an alcoholic," she said. "The real work that needed to be done in my life was to actually accept failure, pain, brokenness, and self sabotage. The drinking wasn't the issue. I was. I didn't love myself. I didn't respect my own power. Today I do." She added: "I am free." Michelle Wu Just Became the First Woman and Person of Color Elected Mayor of Boston (Credit: Getty Images) Michelle Wu, a Democrat, became the first woman and person of color to be elected mayor of Boston. Michelle, the daughter of Taiwanese immigrants, defeated fellow Democrat Annissa Essaibi-George, ending the city’s 200-year history of electing white men. Acting Mayor Kim Janey became the first Black woman to hold the seat after Marty Walsh, who had served as mayor since 2014, resigned in March to become President Joe Biden’s labor secretary. “One of my sons asked me the other night if boys can be elected mayor of Boston. They have been, and they will again some day, but not tonight,” Wu told supporters Tuesday night. “On this day, Boston elected your mom because from every corner of our city, Boston has spoken.” “We are ready to meet this moment. We are ready to become a Boston for everyone,” she added. Spanx CEO Surprises Every Employee with 2 First-Class Plane Tickets and $10,000 (Credit: Paul Morigi/Getty Images via NPR) Before Spanx founder Sara Blakely became the youngest self-made female billionaire, she sold fax machines door to door because she needed the money and health insurance. Now, two decades after Sara launched the pioneering womenswear company, global investment firm Blackstone is buying a majority stake in Spanx, which is valued at an estimated $1.2 billion in the deal. In a video posted on Instagram last week, Sara celebrated the sale with her employees by gifting each of her employees $10,000 and two first-class plane tickets to travel anywhere in the world. "I said this company will one day be worth $20 million, and everybody laughed at me," Sara said in the video. "In a moment like this, I think of my mom and my grandmothers and their lack of options and all the women that came before them," she added. "This would have only been a very remote dream." Handball Federation Changes “Sexist” Uniform After Criticism(Credit: Getty Images) The International Handball Federation has published new rules for its female beach handball athletes, officially changing their uniform from bikini bottoms to shorts. The amendment comes after months of criticism and accusations of sexism — and an act of protest from the Norwegian women’s beach handball team in July. This past summer, the Norwegian athletes were fined 150 euros each (1,500 total for the entire team) by the European Handball Federation for wearing shorts instead of bikini bottoms during a championship game against Spain. According to the International Handball Federation’s uniform rules at the time, women players were required to wear bikini bottoms with a maximum side width of 10 centimeters, or 3.9 inches, as well as a required “close fit and [a] cut on an upward angle toward the top of the leg.” In comparison, male players had far less strict uniform guidelines: shorts that were “not too baggy” and 10 centimeters above the kneecap. Now, in a new set of rules published last month, the IHF handbook states that beginning in January 2022, female players will be allowed to wear fitted tank tops instead of their previous crop tops that resemble sports bras. To replace the bikini bottom, female players “must wear short tight pants with a close fit.” Did We Just Become Best Friends?
