MCAT 2021 Registration OPEN for Jan-March dates

Registration for January and March exam dates opened on Tuesday, November 10. As we have previously shared, the MCAT exam will return to the full-length test in January 2021. To assist students with the registration process, the AAMC has provided two short videos to aid examinees in navigating the registration system. To accommodate the needs of all learners, both videos include closed captioning.

Updated 2021 U.S. Testing Calendar and Score Release Dates
On Nov. 4, the AAMC informed prehealth advisors and preregistered examinees that expedited scoring would be in effect for January 2021 dates, meaning scores from all January exams will be reported in about two weeks instead of four.

This change is meant to help students who still want to take the MCAT exam and submit scores in their 2021 applications. It will also help with admissions timelines for the medical schools that are accepting January 2021 scores.

MCAT plans to return to the typical 30- to 35-day score reporting schedule beginning in March 2021.

Medical School Admission Requirements™ Reports for Applicants and Advisors

The AAMC took steps to make the MSAR Advisor Reports free and available to the public earlier this year to provide access to information previously only available to advisors and paid subscribers. Now, the reports are retitled to reflect their intended use as the MSAR Reports for Applicants and Advisors. The AAMC web page and each PDF report reflects this new title in addition to updated disclaimer language.

We hope that this update will encourage additional applicants to use these reports to inform their application and admissions process. The reports are updated concurrently with MSAR as our member medical schools make updates to their deadlines and policies.

Trans Care: A Critical Conversation, Featuring Hil Malatino

A panel of leading scholars on trans and queer studies will discuss the recently published book “Trans Care” by Hil Malatino, assistant professor of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies and research associate in the Rock Ethics Institute at Penn State. The virtual event, which is free and open to the public, will take place Tuesday, December 1, at 4:00 p.m.

Published by the University of Minnesota Press, “Trans Care” rejects dominant understandings of the ethics of care and draws attention to how they help entrench family structures and other gendered arrangements that marginalize trans individuals. In the book, Malatino goes beyond just critiquing where existing theories fall short and tackles the critical work of reimagining what an ethics of care looks like in communities of trans individuals and their allies.

“Trans Care” is Malatino’s second book in as many years exploring issues related to gender and sex equity. In 2019, he published “Queer Embodiment: Monstrosity, Medical Violence, and Intersex Experience” with the University of Nebraska Press.

Joining Malatino on the December 1 panel to discuss “Trans Care” will be Jules Gill-Peterson, associate professor of English and gender, sexuality, and women’s studies at the University of Pittsburgh, and Ann Cvetkovich, director of the Pauline Jewett Institute of Women’s and Gender Studies at Carleton University. The panel will explore themes raised in Malatino’s book, such as the unique challenges faced by trans individuals, how traditional systems of support often fail them, and why we must radically rethink the ethics of care as it applies to them.

The Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Rock Ethics Institute at Penn State are sponsoring the event. All are welcome to attend. For more information about the event and how to register to watch it online, visit https://bit.ly/36waEqF. Please contact Rock Ethics Institute associate director Erin Heidt-Forsythe at eah28@psu.edu if you have any questions about the event.

The goal of the program is to generate excitement for a future career in cancer research in highly motivated undergraduates and help them prepare for the next stage of their careers.

The CanSUR program will support 32 undergraduates for a 10-week period (June through August). Undergraduates will be accepted from colleges and universities from across the country to work with our Case CCC researchers. A stipend of $4,000 for will be provided for the 10-week program.
