From the Director’s Desk I feel like I should be welcoming us all to spring in Dushanbe, but the trees are still bare and there is a promise of snow on Monday. So, we are not quite to spring yet, although I believe the trees may be as confused as we are as to the season! What is nice about our lovely weather is that our students get to play outside a lot! That is very healthy for us all. In terms of our health, we do appear to have a virus appearing in our school. Right now it is mostly with our primary children. It begins with a headache and continues with a fever, achiness, stomach and intestinal issues, and so on. Most students and staff are out of school for a few days. We remind our children to wash their hands often. We keep our hands and hugs to ourselves during these times. Our teachers take extra care to sanitize desktops and keep germs away. You can help by keeping your child home if a fever is present, and by encouraging coughing/sneezing into their sleeve, instead of their hands, and not sharing snacks and drinks. We will get through this flu season, hopefully relatively unaffected! Thank you! QSI Dushanbe is a community school. We host a variety of groups, which offer programs that directly or indirectly support our students and their parents. While the operation of these classes and programs is not managed by the school, the programs are a benefit to our community, and we are enthusiastic to support them. These programs include hip hop classes, taekwondo classes, and guitar lessons. If you have a child who is interested in any of these classes, contact Gulnoza in the office. Further, a community choir group meets on campus weekly. As well, we are excited to announce the addition of a Boy Scouts of American in Tajikistan troop. If you have a boy age 11 – 17 and are interested in Boy Scouts, please see the information box below. Ms. Dilorom, our art teacher has a request! Please donate nut shells of any kind! She has an art project coming up that will use the shells. Pistachio, walnut, hazelnut, pecan, etc. Any shell is fine! Please drop them off with Nazira or Gulnoza in the office. We hope you have enjoyed interacting with our Facebook page. We have been working to be more active on the page, to keep you informed. We are always open to ideas and suggestions, so if there is something that you would like to see more of, please let us know! We hope you are having a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to a great week ahead with your children. Kim Black and QSID Staff
During January and February (and maybe even March), there is a good chance we will have a number of days like we did this last Wednesday: a bit snowy and slushy. It would be wonderful for kids to be able to get outside to make snowballs, build a snowman, and play in the weather we don’t experience very often. However, they need to be dressed appropriately with boots, hats, and mittens. This is also the time of year it is important for your child to have a pair of indoor shoes so when they have been outside, they can leave the snow and slush in the halls and not in the classrooms. Please help your student enjoy this time of year by making sure they are ready for the weather. Thank you! Dearest QSI parents,
GERMAN CLASSThis week was full of theory and practice for the German class students. They not only learned new vocabulary on the topic of "School Supplies" but also had a chance to practice the same vocabulary by completing different exercises and activities. In addition, students had time to interact with each other through a group project that involved preparing their own schoolbag as well as collecting all necessary supplies needed for school. Students enjoyed the interactive part of the class and hopefully, it will help them in remembering new vocabulary.
